Lady Longhorns split games at Pershing County Tournament

The Battle Mountain High School softball team started its season with a split of two games, while having other games canceled due to poor weather in Lovelock. Battle Mountain took on Carlin this past Thursday and beat the Railroaders 11-0. Battle Mountain scored in all four inning it batted in, leading 3-0 after the first inning. After scoring a single run in the second inning, the Lady Longhorns scored four runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth.

Battle Mountain splits with Pershing County, Virginia City

The Battle Mountain baseball team split two games at the Pershing County Tournament in Lovelock this past weekend. Battle Mountain defeated Pershing County 15-2 on Thursday and lost 6-4 to Virginia City on Friday. The remainder of the games set for the weekend were canceled due to weather.

Domagala, Del Rio sign letters of intent to play baseball, football

Battle Mountain High School seniors Brice Domagala and Anthony Del Rio are headed to the next level to being their college careers in football and baseball. Domagala, who was named the Northern 2A Most Valuable Player during the football season this past fall is headed to Dickinson State University in in Dickinson, N.D. 

Men’s and women’s basketball welcome donor-funded locker room building

Nevada Athletics celebrated the single-largest donor gift in department history. This $4 million gift from Eric ’82 (mechanical engineering) and Linda Lannes, alongside two $2 million gifts from anonymous donors, will be key to continuing the growth of the Wolf Pack basketball programs. Thanks to this generous support, the north end of campus will soon be home to another state-of-the-art facility. Currently in the design phase and set to open by early 2024, the new Men’s & Women’s Basketball Locker Room Building will continue to build on the growth of the Wolf Pack basketball programs — housing brand new team locker rooms and player lounges for both the men’s and women’s teams.

BMHS wrestlers capture 20th state title

The Battle Mountain High School wrestling team continued its dominance in the 2A with another state title on Feb. 19 in Las Vegas at the Meadows School. Battle Mountain easily outdistanced Lincoln County 146-101 for the title.  

Battle Mountain girls fall to Lincoln County in semifinals at state tourney

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team was back in the NIAA 2A State Championships for the first time since 2018 with a Friday trip to Reno and Lawlor Events Center. Battle Mountain met up with Lincoln County back in 2018 and played the Lynx once again this past Friday, as Lincoln County entered the tournament as the top seed from the Southern 2A.

Nevada announces 2022 football schedule

The Nevada football program and the Mountain West announced  the 2022 football schedule. Nevada opens the season at New Mexico State on Aug. 27.

Battle Mountain NNA swim team competes in Minden

The Battle Mountain NNA Swim Team was in Minden from Feb. 11-13 for the Valentines Day Age Group Open at the Carson Valley Swim Center. The team welcomed a new member in Molly Riboux. Riboux is an exchange student from Belgium and joined the team three days after arriving in Battle Mountain. 

Longhorns knocked out of Northern 2A Regional Tournament by North Tahoe

The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team opened the Northern 2A Regional Championships this past Thursday at the Winnemucca Junior High School against North Tahoe. The Longhorns stayed within striking distance for three quarters but the Lakers pulled away late for a 56-41 win to end Battle Mountain’s season at 9-13 overall. 

Battle Mountain girls secure spot in NIAA State Championships

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team is back in the NIAA 2A State Championships for the first time since 2018. The Lady Longhorns entered the Northern 2A Regional Championship in Winnemucca with a first-round bye and needed just a victory over North Tahoe this past Friday to advance to Lawlor Events Center in Reno.

Battle Mountain wins another state title, pushes total to 20

It was yet another successful business trip for the Battle Mountain High School wrestling team, who claimed the NIAA 2A State Championship this past Saturday at The Meadows School.  The Longhorns claimed its 20th title overall, the most overall in the state of Nevada. Lowry is second with 16. The wrestlers received a police escort for the final few miles into town upon the return trip from Las Vegas on Sunday.  Sean Scherer at 106 pounds, Liam Bundrock at 120 and Zach Duggan at 182 pounds won individual championships.

Longhorns split with Wolverines, Falcons to end regular season

The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team split its final two regular season games, losing to West Wendover 53-17 on Tuesday, Feb. 8, and beating Coral Academy 50-43 on Friday night in Battle Mountain, as the Longhorns celebrated Winterfest and senior night. The Northern 2A Regional Championships take place this weekend in Winnemucca. 

Battle Mountain girls finish regular season with a pair of victories

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team ended the regular season on a high note and now are getting ready for the Northern 2A Regional Championships this weekend in Winnemucca. Battle Mountain traveled to West Wendover on Tuesday, Feb. 9, and beat the Wolverines 38-23. 

Battle Mountain wrestlers claim Northern 2A regional championship

The Battle Mountain High School wrestling team finally got back to the postseason after missing last year and they took full advantage of it at the Northern 2A Regional Championships by doing what they do — winning the regional title The team race saw Battle Mountain on top of the scoreboard outdistancing second-place Yerington by a score of 188-133. Wells finished third at 89 points and Eureka (60) and host Pershing County (49) rounded out the top five.  “We were able to put all 11 of our wrestlers into the championship finals and that is why we ran away with the tournament,” said BMHS coach Mitch Domagala.

NASCAR scores win with successful race inside LA Coliseum

NASCAR was the big winner at its glossy Los Angeles gala held inside Memorial Coliseum. In need of an energy boost ahead of its upcoming season, NASCAR broke its dated mold and staged an experimental exhibition race inside one of the most iconic venues in sports.  The race itself on a temporary quarter-mile asphalt oval was a sideshow in Sunday’s made-for-Fox Sports spectacular. Just how successful was the Busch Light Clash? Two losing drivers high-fived a pair of NASCAR senior executives as they passed in the USC locker room.
