Della Domingo shot a low-net score of 144 to win the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club Spring Tournament held at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course on May 18 and May 26.
Nevada Football will have five contests (three home, two road) broadcast on CBS Sports Network in 2021, as the Mountain West announced the CBS and CBS Sports Network selections Wednesday. Nevada’s CBS Sports Network slate will begin with two-straight games at Mackay Stadium. The Pack will host New Mexico State Saturday, Oct. 9, for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff, followed by another 7:30 p.m. kick the following Saturday, Oct. 16, against Hawai’i.
The Lowry High School rack and field team ended its season in cold, windy and wet weather in Fallon on Saturday at the Northern 3A Regional Championships. The Buckaroo’s Shaun Gilliland led a 1-2-3 finish in the pole vault for the Buckaroo boys. The win by Gilliland was the lone victory for Lowry on the day.
The Lowry High School swim team joined the rest of the Northern 3A this past weekend for the regional championships at the Carson Aquatic Center in Carson City.
The McDermitt High School track and field team closed out its season at the 1A East Regional Championships in Elko this past Friday. Enrique Villalobos posted a runner-up finish in the shot put with a toss of 30 feet, 7 inches. Wells’ Grant Kington won the event at 32-6. Villalobos was fourth in the discus with a toss of 83-4.
Sons of Pamarchy out of Reno won the 2021 Bad Boys Tournament held May 15-16 at Spare Time Bowl. The Winners Inn provided $3,800 in prize money, as nearly 110 bowlers participated, with 96 of them from out of town. Over $12,000 in prize money was awarded as 36 teams competed.
The 3A East boys golf season came to a close for Lowry High School on Wednesday, May 19, at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko. Despite missing the first tournament of the season, Fernley claimed the regional championship, shooting 350. Elko was a close second on its home course at 356 and Lowry was third with a round of 397. Spring Creek, the winner in Winnemucca the week before, was fourth at 403 and Churchill County (413) and Dayton (419) rounded out the team scores.
The 3A East Regional Baseball Championships got off to a rough start earlier in the week, when Lowry’s first-round opponent, Elko had to pull out of the tournament due to a number of Covid cases. The cases spread throughout the school, forcing the school to shut down. Then the day of the regional tournament, Mother Nature showed her disapproval, suspending the Churchill County and Spring Creek opening-round game due to rain.
After every game and series the Lowry High School softball team turns the page to look forward to it next opponent. The Lady Bucks don’t have to turn the page any more, they can close the book on a 3A East Regional Championship and a 15-3 record. The run to the title was not an easy one this past weekend, as Mother Nature proved to be on the rude side and Lowry had to deal with a pesky Spring Creek squad in the semifinals on Saturday.
Vicki Celio and Cassie Morgan each shot a low-gross score of 70 to tie for first place in the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club Pro’s Posse tournament held Monday, May 10, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.
The Lowry High School swim team concluded its regular season this past weekend at Incline with a dual against Incline and North Tahoe. The Buckaroo boys beat North Tahoe 75-25 and lost 89-63 to Incline. The Lady Bucks beat North Tahoe 43-41 and lost 137-37 to Incline. In the victory over North Tahoe, Matthew Lizanetz won the 50-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle, while teammate Caden Montero won the 100-yard breaststroke. Montero placed third in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Lowry High School track and field team wrapped up its regular season with a tri-meet in Fernley last Saturday that also included Elko. The Lady Bucks Hannah Whitted won the high jump with a mark of 4 feet, 10 inches, while teammate Kenzi Petersen was second at 4-8. Madison Duvall claimed the top spot in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 12-9.75 and the sophomore was 10th in the 100-meter dash at 15.13 seconds.
The roller coaster of a season for the Lowry High School baseball team continued last week, as the Buckaroos picked up one win in three games with Spring Creek to end regular season play in the 3A East.
After shooting some of the lower scores of the year the week before in Fernley, the Northern 3A East boys golfers found tough going on Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course on Tuesday, May 11.
Three of the four baseball games the Pershing County High School baseball team played over the weekend were close. The Mustangs were ahead or tied at several points. On Friday, Pershing County hosted West Wendover. The Wolverines won both games of the doubleheader (16-1, 10-7).
