Lowry volleyball splits with Dayton, Fernley

The Lowry High School volleyball tram hit the road for the first time in Northern 3A East play and saw its eight-match winning streak come to an end this past Friday with a 25-23, 25-16 and 25-22 loss to Dayton.

Rugby hits the field in Winnemucca

The inaugural Winnemucca Cup was played in a two-series event that started on Oct. 1 and will continue Oct. 22. The high desert of northern Nevada is the setting to determine the seeding and who will be the Western United States 9s men’s champion. Winnemucca will also crown the USA Women’s 9s National Champion.                                                              

Ladies Golf results —

Gail Piquet shot a low-gross score of 90 to win the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Cub Gross/Net tournament held Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. Vicki Celio was second in the first flight at 107.

Lowry boys soccer team picks up first win of the season

The Lowry High School boys soccer team turned in its best performances of the season this past weekend on its home field. The Buckaroos notched their first win of the year, with an 8-0 victory over Dayton on Frida afternoon. Lowry played to a 0-0 tie on Saturday afternoon and say its Northern 3A East record even out at 1-1-1.

Lowry girls pick up a pair of league road victories

After sitting home and practicing for much of September, the Lowry High School soccer team is now making up for the time off in a big way. The Lady Bucks were on the road last week for four matches, which included two crossover games and two in the Northern 3A East.  Lowry went 2-1-1 in those four matches to improve to 3-0 in the Northern 3A East, 1-2-1 in crossover matches and 5-5-1 overall.

The Lowry High School cross country team was busy last week with a pair of meets in Northern Nevada.

Cassinelli wins low medalist honors on home course

When the Lowry High School girls golf team hosted the Northern 3A at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course on Monday, Sept. 26, the Lady Bucks’ Katie Cassinelli came to the course with the mindset of not letting Douglas, the defending state champion have an individual champion. Even though the Tigers won the tournament with a 349, Cassinelli kept the individual crown in Winnemucca, as she was the low medalist with a career-best round of 78.

Elko hands Lowry first loss of the season

One of the more anticipated match-ups of the season took part in Elko this past Friday night, as the Lowry High School football team began play in the Northern 3A East.  It turned out to be an unexpected senior night for the Indians, who were playing their final regular season home game due to Dayton canceling its varsity season.

McDermitt picks up first victory of season with road win at Carlin

The McDermitt High School volleyball team was back on the road this past weekend for a pair of Eastern 1A matches, where the Lady Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season.  McDermitt opened the weekend on the Nevada-Idaho border in Jackpot, where the Jaguars won on their home floor 25-17, 26-16, 25-22. Jackpot is undefeated in the Eastern 1A.

Lara leads the way for Lowry cross country team at Truckee Invitational

After having its last two meets canceled to due smoke in the Reno/Lake Tahoe area, the Lowry High School cross country team was back on the course this past Saturday in California at the Truckee Invitational.

Lowry knocks off Churchill County in four sets

It took a little bit longer than expected after a slow start but the Lowry High School volleyball team extended its winning streak to eight, with a four-set victory over Churchill County on Wednesday, Sept. 21, in Winnemucca. The Greenwave took advantage of a slow start by the Lady Bucks to win the first set 25-19, but Lowry bounced back to win the final three sets 25-17, 25-23 and 25-22 to improve to 13-4 overall, 1-0 in the Northern 3A East and 6-0 in crossover matches. Churchill County scored the first four points of the opening set, only to see Lowry score the next four, with the last two coming off a kill by Jada Matheny and an ace by Kailey Franklin.

Ladies Golf results —

Gail Piquet shot a low-gross score of 79 to win the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club Criers Tournament held Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. 

Battle Mountain drops four-set match to Pershing County, beats Coral Academy

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team wrapped up a six-match road trip that took up all of September with two more matches on the road last week.

After long layoff, Lowry girls split matches with Wooster, Churchill County

It might have been than three weeks but the layoff for the Lowry High School girls soccer team seemed like years. Before last week, the last time the Lady Bucks were on the field for match was Aug. 30, in South Tahoe. 

Bucks drop league opener to Churchill County

The Lowry High School boys soccer team began play in the Northern 3A East Division with a road trip to Fallon on Tuesday, Sept. 20. The Greenwave, on their home field, scored the first four goals of the match, all in the first half and held on for a 4-3 win.
