Lowry volleyball team to hold open gyms, morning workouts

WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School volleyball team will be holding open gyms every Tuesday and Wednesday from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the main gym at the high school. Those girls that attend are asked to bring court shoes and a bottle of water.

44-Hour Tournament makes annual return to Winnemucca Sports Complex

The "Mardi Gras of the West" returned to Winnemucca last weekend, as the 33rd annual Paradise Valley Volunteer Fire Department 44-Hour Softball Tournament took place at the Winnemucca Sports Complex. Over 60 teams from around the West competed for three days in temperatures near 105 degrees, for a shot at the men's and women's championship. Home Grown out of Sparks scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Kim's Dreams/Gary's Carpets (Nampa, Idaho) for the men's title. BB's out of Nampa, Idaho defeated HTD (Sparks) in the women's championship. Winnemucca's Screwballs and Le French Twist were the Dawg Pound winners (the best of the worst. The 44-Hour Tournament is one of the main fundraisers for the Paradise Valley Volunteer Fire Department through 4-H and scholarships.All photos by Tony Erquiaga, The Humboldt Sun

Mendoza wins Jeff Herzog junior golf tournament

WINNEMUCCA - Andy Mendoza shot a round of 2-over par 74 to win the Jeff Herzog junior golf tournament, held last Wednesday at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. Over 40 junior golfers took part in the tournament.

Montero finishes fourth in goat tying at National High School Finals Rodeo

WINNEMUCCA - After more than 10 months of action, the high school rodeo season came to an end Saturday night for the Humboldt County Rodeo Club, with Savannah Montero finished fourth in the goat tying at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyo.

WINNEMUCCA - Summer conditioning is currently underway for those interested in playing for the Lowry High School football team this fall.

Humboldt General Hospital to offer free sports physicals

WINNEMUCCA - Humboldt General Hospital will offer free sports physicals to all Lowry High School, McDermitt High School, Winnemucca Junior High School and Humboldt County youth sports organization athletes who will participate in school-sanctioned or community sports and/or other activities/organizations such as scouting on Saturday from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. The last check-in time is 5 p.m.
