Under record-breaking high temperatures, the Jumping June Drag Races took place at the Good Times Drag Strip last weekend off of Jungo Road. Jason Arrien was the winner of the Pro Class, Joe Gourley the Street Class and George Cottrell the Sportsman Class. There were several out of town contestants competing, including from Carson City and Elko. A total of 145 spectators braved the heat over the weekend. The track was maintained by Steve Dolphin of Speedy's Automotive, Bill Lambert, Larry Tregellas, Jay Tregellas and Bob Brooks and all the track members. The Winnemucca 10-11 year-old all-stars are the last group to get their Division III Tournament underway next week in Fernley. Winnemucca's first game will take place Monday against Elko at 5 p.m. High Desert (Fernley) and Ruby Mountain (Spring Creek) play at 7 p.m. The championship game is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday and if needed at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 12. RENO - Nevada junior quarterback Cody Fajardo has been named to the initial watch list for the Maxwell Award, which is given annually to college football's player of the year, the Maxwell Football Club.

RENO -The Reno Aces will have three players in the 2013 Dolan Auto Group Triple-A All-Star Game, as Matt Davidson, Tuffy Gosewisch and Chris Owings have been selected to represent the Pacific Coast League in July's annual showcase. 
The Winnemucca 10-11-year-old stars were in Fernley this week for the Division III tournament. Winnemucca defeated Elko 4-3 in its first game on Monday evening. Winnemucca met up with Ruby Mountain (Spring Creek) on Tuesday night and lost 15-4. In an elimination game on Wednesday evening, Winnemucca could not hold an early advantage and lost 13-10 to Elko.
