WINNEMUCCA - The City of Winnemucca Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Nevada Department of Wildlife will conduct a fly-fishing clinic on Thursday, June 27. The class is designed for entry level thru advanced anglers.
WINNEMUCCA - Chris Gleason, an eighth-grade student at Winnemucca Junior High School, has earned a spot on the Nevada National Junior High rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Gallup, N.M., June 23-29 to compete at the ninth annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo (NJHFR).

WINNEMUCCA -- Local girls received some expert coaching on the fundamentals of the game at a basketball camp held at Lowry High School June 17-20.
WINNEMUCCA - Gail Piquet shot a low gross score of 95 to lead the way in the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club low gross and net tournament on Tuesday, June 18, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.
The Winnemucca 9-10-year-old stars kicked off the Little League all-star season this past weekend in Elko. Winnemucca defeated Battle Mountain 36-1 on Saturday and lost 9-7 to High Desert (Fernley) on Sunday. Winnemucca was scheduled to play an elimination game at 6 p.m. on Monday. Results were not available at press time. The championship game is set for 9 a.m. on Friday. WINNEMUCCA - The Humboldt County Rodeo Club will be sending three of its members to the National Finals High School Rodeo, after its performances at the Nevada State High School Association State Finals Rodeo held in Fallon June 13 - 16.

The Greater Nevada Badgers B team had a rare chance to play on its home field with a game against Spring Creek on Tuesday night at Lowry High School. The Badgers jumped out to a 7-1 lead and held on for a 10-6 victory. COURTESY PHOTOThe Winnemucca 11 and 12-year-old all-stars will play host to the Division III Region Tournament beginning on Sunday. The tournament will run through next week at the Major Field park. Walker River and Ruby Mountain open the tournament at 9 a.m on Sunday, with Silverada and Elko playing at 11 a.m. Opening ceremonies will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Winnemucca faces White Pine at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Teams expected to play in the tournament include Elko, Lincoln County, Ruby Mountain (Spring Creek), Silverada (Dayton), Walker River, (Yerington) and High Desert (Fernley). The Winnemucca 11-12 year-old stars did not let the record heat in the region bother them, as they opened play in the Division III All-Star Tournament with a 14-1 victory over White Pine on Sunday evening in Winnemucca. Three other games took place yesterday which included Ruby Mountain against Walker River, Silverada and Elko and High Desert and Lincoln County closed out the action on opening day. Winnemucca played Monday morning but results were not available at press time. The tournament runs through the week with the championship game set for 9 a.m. on Friday.
