Lady Bulldogs' season ends with playoff loss to Wells McDermitt finishes year at 16-6

WINNEMUCCA - As a team, your goal is always wanting to make it to a regional or state championship game. That dream came up one game short for the McDermitt High School girls basketball team, but head coach Jaimi Wilkinson could not be more proud of her team of seven girls.

WINNEMUCCA - Losers held on to its lead in the Winnemucca Pool League standings after beating Bar M Saloon 12-5 in week 18 play. Losers has a 16-1 record and 203 out of a possible 289 points through 18 weeks of play.

RENO - For the past couple of weeks, the stars were aligning for the Lowry High School boys basketball team to make a run for the state championship.

WINNEMUCCA - Lowry High School's Jesse Studebaker was the lone Buckaroo named to the Ruby Mountain League first team, as selected by the league's six coaches.

Peters named 3A Coach of the Year Studebaker named to all-state first team

WINNEMUCCA - As the Lowry High School boys basketball team collected its first state championship in 10 years and 11th overall with a 52-48 win over Elko, Buckaroo head coach Chad Peters was named the 3A Coach of the Year.

In the process of winning its first state championship on the floor in 10 years, the Lowry High School boys basketball team was also named the 3A state academic champions before Saturday's 3A title game against Elko. This is the second year in a row that the Buckaroos have been named academic champions.

The Lowry High School cheerleaders joined the boys basketball team and wrestling team as the 3A academic state champions. The cheerleaders were recognized for their achievement on Saturday at halftime of the Lowry/Elko boys 3A state championship game at Lawlor Events Center in Reno. Accepting the award for Lowry was its three captains (left to right) Ashley Principe, Michael Drake and Alexis Kranovich, along with coach Diane Rice.

McDermitt boys basketball team competes at state tournament in Reno

The McDermitt High School boys basketball team was back at Lawlor Events Center in Reno for the state tournament, 10 years after the school won its first state championship in the sport. The Bulldogs came up short in their quest for a second title, losing 67-51 to Pahranagat Valley in the semifinals on Friday, Feb. 24.
