FALLON — The intense battle between two volleyball rivals was won in the trenches. After Fallon (11-4 overall, 7-2 in league) captured a first-set win last Thursday, 25-21, Lowry roared back to capture the next three sets — 25-22. 25-19 and 25-21 — and a Northern 3A win over Fallon at the Elmo Dericco Gym.
MCDERMITT — As the season hit the midway point, the McDermitt High School football team stepped out of league play to take on North Tahoe this past Saturday in McDermitt.
After traveling throughout the state and even into Idaho since August, the Lowry High School cross country team had a rare opportunity to stay home last week, hosting the Lowry Invitational, this past Friday afternoon at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.
With less than two weeks to go before the NIAA 3A State Championships, the Lowry High School girls golf team was looking to carry some momentum into the future championships, as the Northern 3A stopped at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course last Thursday.
The Winnemucca Junior High School seventh-grade girls basketball team claimed the Tri-County championship on its home floor On Saturday, Oct. 1. The Warriors beat Pershing County 44-5 in the semifinals. Kadence Cooney, Hannah Whitted and Emika Viscarra were the high scorers with eight points each. Winnemucca defeated McDermitt 33-7 in the championship game.
After a slow start last Saturday, the Winnemucca Junior High School eighth-grade girls basketball team battled back to claim the Tri-County championship with a 34-23 win over Oasis Charter School in Winnemucca.
The Lowry JV boys soccer team hosted South Tahoe on Wednesday and suffered a 4-0 loss to the Vikings. The Buckaroos are back in action at home on Tuesday to take on Fernley at 4 p.m. Lowry continues its stay in Winnemucca, playing Spring Creek on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Sometimes rivalries sprout up out of nowhere. The Lowry High School boys soccer team and South Tahoe are starting to develop one and there is no love lost between the two schools.
The Lowry girls golf team hosted the Northern 3A on Thursday at Winemucca Municipal Golf Course.
A win is a win any way you take it. After crushing Fernley in the first set on Wednesday night, the Lowry High School volleyball team had to do a little extra work during Homecoming week to beat the Vaqueros. The Lady Bucks eventually won the match 25-8, 24-26, 25-17 and 25-16 to improve to 5-4 in the Northern 3A and remained in fifth place in the league.
MCDERMITT — The McDermitt High School volleyball team was looking to close out Homecoming week on a high note, taking on rival Owyhee in a doubleheader on Saturday morning.
One could not blame the Lowry High School cross country team for tired legs. The Buckaroos ran in their third race in seven days at the Fernley Roadhill Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
DAYTON — The hobbled prom king’s fourth quarterback comeback got Dayton closer to victory than any other moment in the team’s 17-game losing streak dating back to 2014, but the Dust Devils still fell 14-6 on homecoming night against Lowry.
MCDERMITT — After playing its first two games on the road, the McDermitt High School football team was ready to put on a show for its home crowd. The Bulldogs did just that, routing Owyhee 46-6 on Saturday afternoon in front of a loud Homecoming crowd.
Prior to last Friday, the last time the McDermitt High School football team played a game was before school started in August.
