The Lowry High School cross country team got its first taste of action this year on Friday, Aug. 25, at the Douglas Class Races in Minden. Schools throughout all four of Nevada's divisions took part in the race.
Even though the Lowry High School volleyball team started its season at the Yerington Invitational with five wins in six matches, head coach Brandon Eastman believes there is room for improvement with his squad.
The Lowry High School junior varsity football team started its season on a high note, with a 44-14 victory at Battle Mountain on Friday night. The Buckaroos’ offense got off to a slow start in the first half, with a number of penalties stopping drives. Lowry grabbed an 8-0 lead in with 45 seconds left in the first quarter on a 1-yard run by Cole Jones.
To say last season was frustrating for the Lowry High School boys soccer team would be an understatement. The Buckaroos collected just three wins all year — two of those coming over a winless Churchill County team in Northern 3A play.
The Lowry High School girls soccer team adjusted its first couple weeks of the season this year, foregoing making the trip to the Spring Creek Jamboree to host an invitational this year. Churchill County, Fernley, Spring Creek and Battle Mountain also took part in the two-day tournament.

Despite school not starting yet, a handful of McDermitt and Lowry high school sports teams get their season underway this weekend. The McDermitt football and volleyball teams will be home Friday. The Lady Bulldogs’ volleyball team takes on Rimrock, Idaho, at 4 p.m. and the football team kicks off their season at 1 p.m. against Rimrock as well.
The preliminary schedule for the 2017-18 Nevada State High School Rodeo Association season has been released and Winnemucca will host the Nevada State Junior High and High School Finals from May 25-29 at the Winnemucca Events Complex.
