Ladies Golf Club results

Lynda Walton and Terri Kracaw tied for the low gross win shooting a pair of 96’s to win the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club Nassau Tournament on Tuesday at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

Herzog Family Junior Golf Tournament held

Junior golfers aged 6-17 enjoyed another round on the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course at the twentieth annual “Herzog” Junior Golf Tournament held Wednesday. Despite the temperature being in the 90s, twenty-three boys and girls braved the heat to battle their peers.

Winnemucca Gold Rush 8U and 10U travel teams win state championships in Yertington

The Winnemucca Gold Rush softball teams traveled to Yerington this past weekend to compete in the state championship softball tournament. The 8U and 10U teams both brought home the gold with state championships for their efforts.

Summer cutting in Winnemucca

Cutting is a ranch term for singling a cow out of the herd so that it can be given individual attention for medical reasons or for branding.  This very practical activity has been turned into a 2.5-minute competition scored by a judge. A minimum of two cows must be “cut out” of the herd, but cutting three cows is also acceptable. 

Lowry basketball camp for boys and girls hoop it up

Lowry High School held a basketball camp July 9-13 for grade school boys and girls. The camp was run by the new girls varsity basketball coach Melanie Thurmond with the assistance of other LHS coaches and the LHS girls basketball players. 

Lowry football team takes part in EOU football camp

A couple of new teams added a little extra competition and new energy as the Fernley High School football team hosted the Eastern Oregon University camp for the seventh consecutive year June 18-21.

Wrestling camp held at Lowry

John Brooks, the wrestling coach at Lowry High School, held wrestling sessions July 9-11 in the upstairs wrestling room in the new gym at LHS. Brooks was the assistant wrestling coach for seven years before he became the head coach 13 years ago.

Ladies Golf Club results

Gail Piquet shot a low-gross score of 52 to win the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club Blind Hole tournament on Tuesday, July 3. Terri Kracaw was second in the gross division at 56.

Junior golf tournament held at Winnemucca Municipal

Kids aged 6-17 participated in a scramble style golf tournament on Wednesday at the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. Twenty three boys and girls enjoyed a beautiful morning round that was sponsored by the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club. 

Thurmond takes over as new Lowry girls basketball coach

Lowry High School has hired Melanie Thurmond to be the new girls varsity basketball coach.

Winnemucca junior all-stars drop two games

The Winnemucca Junior Little League all-stars played on Thursday, July 5, and Friday, July 6, in Yerington for the right to represent District 3 in the state tournament.
