Cutting is a ranch term for singling a cow out of the herd so that it can be given individual attention for medical reasons or for branding. This very practical activity has been turned into a 2.5-minute competition scored by a judge. A minimum of two cows must be “cut out” of the herd, but cutting three cows is also acceptable.
Lowry High School held a basketball camp July 9-13 for grade school boys and girls. The camp was run by the new girls varsity basketball coach Melanie Thurmond with the assistance of other LHS coaches and the LHS girls basketball players.

John Brooks, the wrestling coach at Lowry High School, held wrestling sessions July 9-11 in the upstairs wrestling room in the new gym at LHS. Brooks was the assistant wrestling coach for seven years before he became the head coach 13 years ago.
Gail Piquet shot a low-gross score of 52 to win the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club Blind Hole tournament on Tuesday, July 3. Terri Kracaw was second in the gross division at 56.
Kids aged 6-17 participated in a scramble style golf tournament on Wednesday at the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. Twenty three boys and girls enjoyed a beautiful morning round that was sponsored by the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club.

The Winnemucca Junior Little League all-stars played on Thursday, July 5, and Friday, July 6, in Yerington for the right to represent District 3 in the state tournament.
