Carlson takes home Jeff Wade Memorial title in last tournament of the year

Junior golf finished off their summer events at the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course on Wednesday with the Jeff Wade Memorial. Twenty-five kids competed with a goal of finishing off the summer strong.

4D barrel race returns to Tri-County Fair

Ladies, Labor Day weekend’s for you at the 2018 Tri-County Fair & Stampede. This year, racers and spectators alike are looking forward to the return of the “Winnemucca 4D Barrel Race,” which will be held in the brand new and beautiful Winnemucca Events Complex Pavilion.

Bulls and Broncs Rodeo back for Labor Day

Since 1921, Winnemucca has been home to one of Nevada’s most exciting rodeos— the longstanding Labor Day Rodeo. Labor Day 2018 is going to take that excitement to new levels as a different kind of competition returns to town: The Bulls and Broncs Rodeo.

Lowry soccer kicks into gear

Tryouts for the Lowry High School boys and girls soccer teams started last Saturday at Jerry Tobin Field.  The girls got an early start in their attempts to make the squad starting at 7 a.m. The boys came in an hour later at 8 a.m. and started showing the coach what they could do. 

Girls attack the net trying to spike a place on the team

The three Lowry High School volleyball teams started its tryouts last Saturday for the freshmen, JV, and varsity squads. The new gym hosted 40 LHS girls trying to secure a spot on the 2018 roster.

Pitching the irons and looking for ringers

The Winnemucca Events Complex was converted into a 16 court/32 pit world tournament style horseshoe stadium last weekend to host local and professional pitchers. 

Overnight soccer tournament keeps it cool

The eighth annual overnight soccer tournament happened last Saturday night at the Lowry High School football field. Play began at 7 p.m. and ran through the night. Ten teams with four players and one substitute participated in three or four 20-minute pool play games, then the top three went on to a single elimination round. 

Winnemucca Junior High School girls basketball begins

It is almost time for the girls at Winnemucca Junior High School (WJHS) to hit the hardwood again.  WJHS is having open gym sessions for the seventh and eighth-grader basketball teams on Aug. 9, 13 and 14. 

Going to the extreme

Extreme Barrel Racing came to the Pavilion at the Winnemucca Events Complex Aug. 3-5. In barrel racing, a horse is ridden around a series of barrels in a particular pattern in an attempt to have the fastest time. The team from Burns Events put on this first-time event in Winnemucca.

Ladies Golf Club results

Terri Kracaw was the low net winner shooting a 68 to win the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club Pro's Posse Tournament on Tuesday at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. 

Stoker wins Doc Verner Memorial Golf tourney

Junior golf returned to the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course Wednesday for the Doc Verner Memorial Golf Tournament.  Temperatures pushed into the 90s as the golfers worked their way around the course.

Lowry High School girls soccer team holds annual camp

The Lowry High School girls soccer team held a week-long camp from Aug. 6-10 at the LHS soccer field.  The sessions were held from 6-8 p.m. each night and drew around 30 youngsters
