Despite a small Buckaroo team, both squads were able to emerge victorious, as the men posted a convincing 65-16 win over Incline, and the women grabbed a 34-29 title.  “We took four boys and three girls, we are a similar size school to Incline," said LHS coach Shelby Ruff. "We had some interesting relays, but they did well overall; we just kind of threw them together with what I could fix. It was Matthew Lizanetz’s first showing this season; he shows a lot of potential with some of his strokes and his technique.”

Lowry was matched up against Elko and Spring Creek in the 3A Division. “It was a great first meet," said LHS coach Grant Beatty. "Sometimes the weather there is an issue. It was a little chilly, but there was not a whole lot of wind. They represented themselves well; there were no issues or injuries. Everybody came back that we brought, so it was a good start to the season.”

Warrior volleyball dominates at home

Winnemucca Junior High School hosted a Bi-County volleyball tournament last Saturday against teams from Lovelock, Pyramid Lake and McDermitt.  The eighth-grade squad won both of their matches in straight sets against Lovelock and Pyramid Lake to end the regular season on their home court.  “Our season was really good," said eighth-grade WJHS coach Tawnya Root. "I think that the girls have grown a lot. They have a little more team cohesiveness, so they are playing better together. It doesn’t take them quite so long to wake up and realize that we are playing volleyball. “Belen (Barocio) has had a really good season as a setter; she and her sister Alex played really well together. Jada (Matheny) and Kailey (Franklin) as outside hitters, and my other setters, Megan (Cook) and Shelbie (Hoyt) have also stood out this year, getting the job done.”
