Buckaroos add three wins to keep playoff hopes alive

The Lowry High School baseball team picked up a forfeit win against Sparks on Friday night, and they backed it up with a couple of blowouts on Saturday to move to 9-10 in league play and a tie for the sixth seed in the Northern 3A playoff race with North Valleys.  “Sparks is in a tough spot because they only have 12 kids on their roster and seven or eight of them are freshmen,” said LHS baseball coach Andy Harmon. “Most of those kids have never played baseball in their life.” Ridge Ricketts tripled in his first three at bats in the opener Saturday on his way to a 5-for-5 performance, while Jordan Parker (2-2), Josiah Chapman (2-2), and Christopher Schultz (1-1) also had perfect days at the plate.  Schultz’s hit was a two-RBI inside the park home run in the fifth to help put away the game for the Buckaroos.

Lady Bucks rally falls short in loss to Greenwave

The Lowry High School varsity softball squad came into its game against Churchill County (Fallon) last Tuesday sitting in third place with a 7-2 league record just ahead of Fallon at 5-3.  The Lady Bucks got out to a slow start and couldn’t make up enough ground as the game wore on, as they went down 9-7 to the Greenwave.  “We didn’t play our best," said LHS coach Austin Mayo. "Mac (Salas-Begay) threw pretty well. She was pretty sharp. Defensively we played a little tight, and when you play this game tight you are going to make errors. We finished with six or seven errors and were still in a two-run ballgame. These girls don’t quit. They keep their heads up and battle the whole way through, and that says a lot about our team.” The Lady Bucks gave up a run to Fallon in the first inning on two errors  and two more in the third inning before Lowry got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third.
