Pershing County football grounds the Nighthawks

This past Friday, the Pershing County High School football team hosted the Silver Stage Nighthawks.  It was Silver Stage’s first game of the year. Pershing County packed the stands and a sizable crowd made the trip from Silver Springs.  The Mustangs continued their winning streak, blanking the Nighthawks 42-0.

Pershing County volleyball goes 2-0 for the week

The Pershing County volleyball team won two league games this past week.  On Friday, they traveled to the Silver State Volleyball Club to play Coral Academy.  The Mustangs beat the Falcons 25-18, 19-25, 25-13, 25-14.

Buckaroos remain undefeated; rolls past Railroaders

After an unexpected week off with South Tahoe game canceled, the Lowry High School football team was back on the field this past Friday night and came away with a 47-20 win over Sparks in Winnemucca.  The Buckaroos scored the first 20 points of the game to improve to 4-0.

Battle Mountain volleyball team drops Northern 2A matches in Lake Tahoe

While outdoor sports were canceled in Lake Tahoe this past weekend, the Battle Mountain High School volleyball team was able to get its Northern 2A openers finished at Incline and North Tahoe this past weekend.

Pershing County soccer loses league match to Sage Ridge

A trio of Sage Ridge sophomores scored seven goals against the Pershing High School girls soccer team on Saturday.  Unfortunately, Pershing County joins the list of girls’ soccer teams bitten by the Scorpions so far this season.  The final score was 7-0, with Sage Ridge scoring two goals in the first half and five in the second. To date, Sage Ridge has blanked Battle Mountain 10-0 and West Wendover 16-0. Incline got a couple of goals past them but still lost 10-2 earlier this month.

PCHS volleyball splits league matches

Sometimes a loss feels more like a win. Last Friday the Pershing County High School volleyball team lost to Yerington in four sets 13-25, 25-13, 20-25, 22-25.  "It was the best played match I have seen from my Mustang team in a couple of years. They played with heart and purpose. I hate losing, but I love losing when we play like that," Monica Halverson said.  The home crowd in the PCHS gym agreed. They sat spellbound by the scrappiness of the Lovelock girls. If a player made a mistake they let it go and focused on the next serve. 

Lowry boys soccer shut out at Reno

The Lowry High School boys soccer team had its weekend cut in half when its scheduled match at Truckee on Friday was postponed because of dense smoke from the Mosquito Fire in California. 

Gonzalez, Chopp lead Lady Longhorn golfers at Wells

The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team headed east on Interstate 80 on Thursday, Sept. 8, for a Northern 2A tournament at Chimney Creek Golf Course in Wells.

Lowry golfers finish fourth, fifth at opening tournaments of the season

The Northern 3A girls golf season finally got under way last week with a pair of tournaments in Eastern Nevada. Temperatures over 100 degrees greeted the golfers, as they hit the course for the first time in Spring Creek and Elko. The season opened up in Spring Creek on Tuesday, Sept. 6, where the Lowry High School girls golf team finished fourth with a four-player total of 469. Douglas, the defending 3A state champion won the tournament by 110 strokes with a score of 349. They had the top three individual spots in Giana Zinke (82), Abby Miller (88) and Madison Frisby (88).

Smoke in Lake Tahoe are forces a number of cancelations for high school sports

What has been a common occurrence in the northern Nevada and California areas the past couple years, smoke from fires forced the cancelation and postponing of high school events. Smoke for the Mosquito Fire in California moved into the Lake Tahoe area on Friday, a spot where a number of Lowry High School teams were scheduled to compete.

Ladies Golf results —

Gail Piquet shot a low-gross score of 95 to win the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club One Mulligan per Nine tournament held Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

Lowry picks up three wins over Northern 3A West schools

The Lowry High School volleyball continued its winnings ways last week with two more road trips to the Reno/Sparks area and finally a home match after spending nearly the first month of action on the road.

Pershing County flattens Incline

This past Friday night, the Pershing County High School football team hosted Incline for the first home football game of the year. The spirit squad had a lot to shout about. The Mustangs won the Northern 2A contest 40-0.

Lady Bucks beat Wolverines in four sets in 3A crossover action

After playing six matches in two days at the Yerington tournament, the Lowry High School volleyball team was back on the road on Wednesday, Aug. 31, this time to take on Truckee, the defending 3A state champion. After a slow start in which Truckee won the first set 25-15. Lowry rallied in the final set to knock off the Wolverines 25-18, 25-19 and 25-18. The Lady Bucks improved to 8-4 overall and 1-0 in league play. Savannah Stoker scored the first two points for Lowry with a tip and a kill and Emma Gray and Kailey Franklin added kills later in the opening set to tie it up at 8-8.

Lowry girls shut out by South Tahoe

After picking up two wins at the Spring Creek tournament, the Lowry High School girls soccer team had a quick turnaround and began Northern 3A crossover play at South Tahoe on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
