With the new football realignment in the Northern 3A, it figured to be a crazy season with the top teams in the league. This past Friday in Winnemucca was no different, as Lowry High School and Spring Creek put on an offensive display for the fans.
The Battle Mountain High School cross country team headed east this past Saturday and out of the state for the 2023 Borders War at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City, Utah. The meet is one top meets in the West.
Kiana Gonzales led the way for the Battle Mountain High School girls golf team at the Elko JV golf match on Thursday, Sept. 14, at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko. Gonzales was fourth overall.

The McDermitt High School volleyball team collected two more wins in the 1A East this past weekend against Jackpot and Wells.
The Lowry High School volleyball team was back on the road for a trip to Truckee, Calif., this past Friday to take on perennial 3A power Truckee in a non-conference match.
It was a busy week for the Lowry High School girls soccer team, with four matches in 3A East play. The Lady Bucks hosted Battle Mountain on Tuesday, Sept. 12, and won 10-0.
After playing its first seven matches on the road this season, the Lowry High School boys soccer team finally got on its home field this past weekend and made the most of it.
Pershing County High School volleyball fans are still hoarse from shouting for their team in what turned out to be a battle to the final point. Pershing County lost to Yerington in five sets (16-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 21-23) last Wednesday at Pershing County High School. "I will remember this game for the rest of my coaching career," said coach Monica Halverson. "It was so much fun." On Saturday the Mustangs hosted North Tahoe and lost in four sets (25-22, 16-25, 10-25, 15-25). The girls now stand fourth in 2A at 5-7, overall, and 4-3 in the league.
Last week on the road, Mustang soccer lost to Churchill County (11-0) and Lowry (8-0). The Greenwave and Buckaroos are the second and third teams in the 3A Northern - East league.
MCDERMITT — The last time the McDermitt High School football team was on the field for a game was March 26, 2021, against Owyhee in a shortened spring season, as the 2020 fall campaign was wiped out by Covid.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN — In its first two games of the season on the road, the Battle Mountain High School football team was still looking to mesh with a young squad against Needles, Calif., and Dayton. The Longhorns have just four seniors this season, with most of the roster as underclassmen.
The Pershing County volleyball team thrilled the home crowd with wins against Coral Academy and Sierra Lutheran this past week. Next, they traveled to Incline to play the Highlanders and lost the fast and furious game 2-3.
The Lowry High School volleyball team was back on the road for matches against Elko and Spring Creek in Northern 3A East play. The Lady Bucks were in Elko on Friday and lost 25-17, 25-22 and 25-17 to the Indians.
Battle Mountain’s Kiana Gonzalez shot a round 102 to finish second at the White Pine tournament on Thursday, Aug. 31. She tied for the top spot, but White Pine’s Kylee Knutsen won on a scorecard tie-breaker.
