Justice Department awards $6 million to assist crime victims

LAS VEGAS - The U.S. Department of Justice awarded $6 million from the 2013 Crime Victims Fund to the State of Nevada for victim compensation and assistance programs. Victim assistance funds in the amount of $3,954,131 and victim compensation funds in the amount of $2,054,000, have been awarded to the state of Nevada Departments of Health and Human Services and Administration to provide support and services to thousands of victims throughout the state.

Cancer coalition's online survey for women extended to Oct. 25

RENO - Nevada women over the age of 40 with no personal history of cancer are invited to take a brief survey to assess women's attitudes towards breast cancer screening and reasons why they may or may not have been screened.

USDA announces $171,198 approved for eight rural energy projects in Nevada

CARSON CITY - USDA has approved $186,200 in energy grants to eight rural businesses that will use the funds to enhance energy efficiency, develop alternative energy sources, or conduct a feasibility studies on using alternative energy.
