Dontae Muse was Student of the Week at Pershing County Middle School for the week of March 11 - 14. Here is what one of his teachers John Keitz had to say about him."I wanted to nominate Dontae Muse for student of the week. Dontae comes to school and exemplifies the character and scholarship that all students should aspire to. He does this week in and week out, without fail, and he does so by actions rather than words. He is never one to try to be noticed for doing the right thing, he just does it. That is why I would like to recognize Dontae as a student of the week."

Local 4-H leaders attend forum in Las Vegas

LOVELOCK - Over 120 4-H leaders, teen leaders and staff from around the state gathered in Las Vegas Feb. 22-23 for the 2013 Nevada 4-H Leaders Forum. "4-H Share the Love" was the theme. Joe and Sheri Crim and Marianne Papa attended from Lovelock.

County's jobless rate rises in January

State's unemployment picture continues to improve

LAS VEGAS (AP) -The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported that the unemployment rate fell to 9.7 percent in January, after adding a seasonally adjusted 6,600 jobs over a month.

RENO - Due to the federal government sequestration, few Saturday adoptions and a low public visitation rate on Saturdays, the Bureau of Land Management's Palomino Valley National Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Center will only be open on the first Saturday each month from 8 a.m.-noon, beginning next month on April 6.

Correctional center holds quarterly blood drive, collects 44 units in two days

LOVELOCK - The Lovelock correctional center held its quarterly blood drive March 19-20. United Blood Services is calling LCC officers, staff and members of the public heroes for donating blood. A total of 44 units of blood were collected during the drive.
