LOVELOCK - Exhibits are a means of showing others what 4-h members have completed in their projects. Exhibits often are the actual items made in the club or it can be educational posters which explain something they learned. Pershing County 4-H members displayed their exhibits at the P.C. Senior Center August 10 - 19. They were entered in the Tri-County Fair August 31 - September 2nd. If only one ribbon is listed, it was from the Tri-County Fair. Following are the results:
LOVELOCK - The Lovelock Frontier Days Committee held its annual recruitment meeting Sept. 6. One new volunteer attended the meeting; Melissa Hughes will work with others on the events subcommittee.
LOVELOCK - Organizers of the fundraiser for 2-year-old Louie Gutierrez are calling the event a success. Organizers declined to say how much money was raised to help the family pay for medical expenses, but one of the organizers, Luetta Thomas, commented, "Our little town with a big heart came through with flying colors."
LOVELOCK - Friends of XL Hospice is proud to announce that preparations are under way for the fun-filled Sixth Annual Rick Maggi Memorial Golf Tournament scheduled for Sept. 15 at the Fernley Golf Course. The shotgun start is slated for 8 a.m.
LOVELOCK - The Union Pacific Railroad celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. As part of its celebration, the legendary steam locomotive No. 844 will travel through 15 states and make numerous stops.
This is the time of year I usually have an article about cutting and harvesting alfalfa in the fall. In the past, producers have been advised to cut hay 4-6 weeks prior to a killing frost.

LAS VEGAS - The Nevada Press Association honored the Lovelock Review-Miner last weekend with a couple of prestigious editorial awards.
GERLACH - Dozens of inspired people who love the desert landscape of the Black Rock gathered to celebrate National Public Lands Day. The campsite was selected by the Bureau of Land Management to be in close proximity to two projects which required some love and attention.
LOVELOCK - The current exhibit at the Pershing County Library from the Nevada Arts Council is titled: What Continues the Dream: Contemporary Arts and Crafts from the Powwow Tradition.
The past couple of weeks, I have been asked to look at numerous trees and shrubs that have dead, dried up leaves. The plants may just have the outer edges turning brown (appear to be burned) or the leaves are completely brown except for the main leaf veins. These symptoms would indicate a condition called "Leaf Scorch".
