Pershing County 4-H & FFA Livestock Show & Sale -

Brilliant sun angled into Lovelock's 4-H building last Sunday for the 69th annual Pershing County 4-H & FFA Livestock Show & Sale. A herd of youngsters adroitly showed goats, pigs, a sheep and a steer throughout the morning, while, in the early afternoon, the venerable Earl Malay called an auction of the animals. To top off the event, a seemingly endless array of desserts went to auction as well.

Country Quilters donation -

COURTESY PHOTOThe Lovelock Country Quilters presented Pershing General Hospital with handmade quilts and bears/animals for the hospital's pediatric patients on May 3. Judy White, Virginia Rose, Carol Schneider, Ida May Mori, Sharon Montrose, Jeanne Munk and Bobbie Jean Aufdermaur of County Quilters were on hand for the donation, along with Deanna Davis and Patty Goldsworthy of PGH.

2012 Pershing County Junior Livestock Show and Sale results announced

LOVELOCK - The Pershing County 4-H Livestock members appreciate the businesses, ranchers, farmers, 4-H Leaders and many others who gave freely of their services, financial support and time to make the 69th Annual Livestock Show and Sale a success. The Show and Sale was held on May 13 at the 4-H Building. Swine, sheep, beef and goat animals were exhibited during the show. Twelve swine, one sheep and one beef were sold during the sale.

Developing grazing management strategies

LOVELOCK - Many ranchers have already, or are beginning to move their livestock from winter grazing to summer grazing areas. This is a common grazing strategy of Nevada ranchers in order to match the needs of the cattle with the nutritional qualities of the plants.

78th annual Portuguese Festa to be held this weekend Wooden carts pulled by oxen returning to Lovelock for fourth year

LOVELOCK - The I.D.E.S. Society of Lovelock will hold its 78th Annual Festa Saturday and Sunday, May 26 - 27. Everyone in the community is invited to take part in the Festa, which is a religious, civic and cultural celebration of thanksgiving. The Festa is sponsored by persons of Azorean-Portuguese descent to commemorate the end of a dreadful famine in Portugal in the year 1323. The letters I.D.E.S. represent Irmandade do Divino Espirito Santo in Portuguese. When translated, this phrase means Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Spirit. Every year many out-of-town visitors come to the Festa. Many are former Lovelock residents who return for this weekend event.

Local volunteer fire departments assist BLM Total of 59 acres burned in Dun Glen fire

IMLAY - Bureau of Land Management fire crews, along with crews from the Imlay and Grass Valley volunteer fire departments, responded to a wildfire on May 16 that burned approximately 59 acres in Dun Glen Canyon.
