Veterans Service Officer to visit Pershing County

RENO - The Nevada Office of Veterans Services Mobile Outreach Vehicle will visit Pershing County next week as part of its continuing effort to reach out to veterans in rural areas of the state.

First case of mad cow in six years

LOVELOCK - In case you hadn't heard or seen on the news, last week the first case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) or mad cow disease was detected in a dairy cow from a farm in Tulare, Calif. Federal officials said Thursday that they now know the latest cow found in the U.S. with mad-cow disease was 10 years and seven months old, giving investigators new pieces of the puzzle as they try to trace back the animal's origins.

Star Peak Arts Retreat Center presents watercolor workshop Stitt to teach class

LOVELOCK - Renowned watercolorist Jerry Stitt A.W.S./N.W.S. will be the guest teacher at a watercolor workshop presented by the Star Peak Arts Retreat Center of Imlay. The workshop will take place May 11 - 13 in Unionville at the Old Pioneer Garden Inn Bed and Breakfast.

Library celebrates children Day filled with fun for kids

LOVELOCK - The Pershing County Library held its third annual El día de los niños (The Day of the Children) celebration on April 27. The afternoon was filled with singing, dancing, crafts and snacks; all to celebrate children.

Library hosts Family Game Night

The Pershing County Library hosted a Family Game Night on May 2. The event, sponsored by the Frontier Community Coalition, was started to encourage parents to spend time with their children, said library staff member Pam Munk. Family Game Night will continue every other Wednesday evening until the end of June. She said she would like to carry on the game night past that date but didn't know if there would be funding for the event after June. "We are funded until the end of June," Munk said. "We would like to keep on with Family Game Night, but we'll have to see if we get more funding." The next game night will take place on May 16.
