John A. Equels was born on April 24, 1956, in Redlands, Calif., and left us on April 16, 2013, when he lost his courageous battle with cancer. John leaves behind his wife, Joyce Cox Equels, his mother, Edith, his two sons Christopher and Curtis and two grandsons, Alex and Ryan, as well as numerous friends; his father, Harold, preceded John in death.John was a family man and loved camping, hiking and fishing especially at Big Bear, Calif., and in the Trinity Alps. When John was a teenager he retained a job of professional cliff diving, unbeknownst to his parents. He loved to work with his hands and took pride in his main profession - construction work.John had a wonderful sense of humor, which he was able to retain until he peacefully slipped away.Services will be private.
Wilburta (Willie) Shidler Marvel, who lived nearly her entire life in northern Nevada, died Tuesday (April 23) at her daughter's home in Carson City surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was 87. Her husband John, prominent Battle Mountain rancher and longtime state Assemblyman, preceded her in death by 38 days.
John Equels, passed away on April 16, 2013 at Humboldt General Hospital with his son at his side. John was a resident of Winnemucca for nearly 4 years. Prior to that he was a resident of Henderson, Nevada where he resided with his family for over 10 years. He will be sorely missed.
William W. Workman (Bill), 72, of Winnemucca, Nev., passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013, of colon cancer. Born on June 7, 1940, in West Virginia, he was the son of Fred and Florencie Workman.

Argie Don McIntosh, 86, died Friday, April 19, 2013, in Boise, Idaho. Argie (Mac) was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Circleville, Utah, to Don and Rhoda Met Bird McIntosh. Argie lived in Junction, Utah, until he joined the U.S. Navy (SeaBees) in 1944 serving in the Pacific Theater and was discharged in 1946. He then went to Ely, Nev., and met Marian Smith of McGill, Nev., and after only three dates took her for his bride. They had a long and loving life together that lasted 66 years.
Long-time Battle Mountain resident Monte L. "Bud" Mauldin died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 73 on April 26 in Reno, Nev., after a long illness.
Donna Louise Sutherland was born Nov. 24, 1947, in Exeter, Calif., and passed away April 30, 2013, at her home in Lovelock, Nev.
Michael J Kyllo, 57, of Winnemucca, Nev., passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Michael was born March 15, 1956, in Rochester, Minn. He was the son of Lyle and Betty Kyllo. Michael is survived by his wife Karen, son Vincent of Oak Harbor Wash., daughter Kari Kiser of Oak Harbor, Wash., two grandsons, Daniel and Trent Kiser of Oak Harbor Wash., brothers Randal Kyllo of Winnemucca, Nev., Jeffery Kyllo of Enumclaw, Wash., and parents Lyle and Betty Kyllo of Winnemucca, Nev.
Raymond Daniel Legarza of Winnemucca passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 6. He was brought into this world at Oakland General Hospital on July 9, 1928, to his proud parents Martin and Christina Legarza.
Marian S. McIntosh, 84, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, in Ely, Nev., only 16 days after her husband Argie Don (Mac) McIntosh died in Boise, Idaho. Marian was born Sept. 25, 1928, in Ely, Nev., to Charles Henry and Mabel Cecelia (Draper) Smith.

Abigail Lucinda Berg-Swope passed away at her Winnemucca home on May 8, 2013, at the age of 47. She was the daughter of Harry and Nellie Thompson of Ely, Nev., and lived in various areas around the local mountains before locating in Winnemucca. She attended White Pine High School in Ely, Nev. Abigail dedicated her adult life to her family and enjoyed spending time with them camping and other family activities with her daughter Deidra. She attended Saint Paul's Catholic Church.
Gary Evans, 61, longtime resident of Winnemucca passed away at home May 9, 2013. Gary was born in Casper, Wyo., June 20, 1952, to Loyd and Lois Evans. Gary was one of three children.
