Free radon test kits offered until Feb. 28

Radioactive gas is second leading cause of lung cancer

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension office in Lander County is offering free radon test kits through Feb. 28 for people to test their homes for the radioactive gas which is the second leading cause of lung cancer, according to the Surgeon General.

It was part of a fundraising trip he made to the United States. Two months later, in December of 1911, he became the first president of the Republic of China. Man who struck officer with his vehicle sentenced to prison

Jared Alan Holm, 26, was sentenced Tuesday to a minimum of 38 months in prison for charges stemming from an incident when he struck a law enforcement officer with his vehicle and then fled the scene on foot.

Adam Adrian and his wife Mary were both born in Bavaria, Germany. Adam was 21 when they left their home country in 1863-as did many people in the mid to late 1800's-possibly due to the poor farming economy.

JESSICA POWELL • The Humboldt SunGround work has begun at the site for the new city fire station. Construction is expected to begin in March. The new station, a nearly $1.7 million project, will be located on East Winnemucca Boulevard behind the golf course.

USDA to release new long term agricultural projections

WASHINGTON - The U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will release new 10-year agricultural projections on Feb. 13, 2014, at 11 a.m. EST. USDA's Agricultural Projections to 2023 will be posted to the Office of the Chief Economist's (OCE) website at www.usda.gov/oce and available in MS Word and PDF formats. Projections data will be available as Excel spreadsheets here.
