WASHINGTON - Drought conditions across the West have impacted rangelands, leaving little water and forage for animals and livestock, prompting the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to undertake targeted actions, such as providing supplemental water and food for wild horses; reducing grazing; and enacting fire restrictions.
WINNEMUCCA - Last month, over 75 volunteers converged on the Lazy P Adventure Farm in Grass Valley to help plant 1.8 acres of pumpkins. In all, the adults and children planted more than 4,700 seeds from eight different varieties of pumpkins.

WINNEMUCCA - The Bureau of Land Management's Winnemucca District has issued a multi-year Special Recreation Permit to Black Rock City LLC authorizing the annual Burning Man event through 2016. The Burning Man event will be held on the Black Rock Playa from Aug. 26 - Sept. 2.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Battle Mountain Quilt Guild is putting its finishing touches on the 2013 How the West Was Warmed Quilt Show to be held Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Battle Mountain Civic Center.
RENO - The American Red Cross launched the Team Red Cross App, which allows people to sign up to help, get an overview on basic tasks and receive notifications about Red Cross disaster volunteer opportunities in their community.
WASHINGTON - USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Administrator Juan M. announced that landowners will have an additional 18 calendar days to submit their annual report of acreage to their local FSA county office with the deadline extended from Monday, July 15 to Friday, Aug. 2.
CARSON CITY - Hunters who did not draw a mule deer tag in Nevada's recently completed second draw still have a chance to go hunting this fall. Results of the second draw were provided Friday, July 19, along with information on remaining tags. All remaining tags will be sold on a first come, first served basis, beginning July 26.
SPARKS - The Nevada Department of Agriculture's Animal Disease and Food Safety Laboratory has detected additional cases of West Nile virus in northern Nevada.
