ELKO - The Bureau of Land Management, Elko District, Tuscarora Field Office is releasing for a 30-day public review an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed construction of support facilities for Newmont Mining Corporation's (Newmont) Midas underground mine located near Midas.

Connect Nevada survey: 75 percent of state's residents now subscribe to broadband service

CARSON CITY - Connect Nevada released new data showing that broadband adoption in Nevada is increasing, with 75 percent of residents now subscribing to broadband service. That's up from 67 percent in 2011.

Energy efficiency program reduces plant's power bill

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - New equipment installed at M-I SWACO's processing facility in Battle Mountain is expected to reduce the plant's annual electricity usage by about 278,300 kilowatt hours.

April meeting of Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council cancelled

CARSON CITY - The meeting of the Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (RAC) scheduled for April 4 - 5 at the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Carson City District office has been cancelled. The RAC is still tentatively scheduled to meet at the BLM's Winnemucca District Office in August.

Local organizations collaborate for greater impact in the community

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Nonprofits and similar organizations in the community work hard to provide residents with necessary services. There are many challenges for rural philanthropic organizations; much of these hardships fall on funding, engaging volunteers and rallying community support.
