A Nevada Department of Wildlife Hunter Safety Education class will be conducted Saturday, March 9, at the Civic Center in Battle Mountain. The cost of the class is $5 and is due at the door. A self-study workbook must be completed prior to the beginning of class and is available at the Cooperative Extension Office at 815 North 2nd St., (775) 635-5565. Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1960, is required to provide proof of hunter education, in order to purchase a Nevada hunting license. You must pre-register by calling (775) 635-5565 followed by going online to http://ndow.org/ and following the hunter education links to Lander County. If numbers exceed our allowed 30 students, a second class will be offered.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Data Night happened Jan. 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Eleanor Lemaire Elementary School. Students came dressed in ties and dresses as they were required to wear business attire.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Lander County School Board held its spring board workshop at the Super 8. It was held Feb. 8 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Feb. 9 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CARSON CITY -Beginning the first week of March and continuing into April, staff from the Nevada Division of Water Resources, Office of the State Engineer, will be measuring groundwater levels in wells throughout various hydrographic basins within Washoe, Humboldt, Pershing, Lander, Elko, Eureka and White Pine counties.

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Willow Creek Enhancement Project team of NDOW, Lander County Convention and Tourism, Lander County and Newmont Mining are pleased to announce that construction will begin on the restoration and enhancement of Willow Creek beginning later this week and continue into May 2013.

CARSON CITY - The Nevada Office of Veterans Services will host the Veterans and Military Day at the Legislature (VAMDAL) on March 20, 2013 to help focus attention on current legislative bills affecting veteran issues and serve as an opportunity for veterans to interact with legislatures.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Lander County Commissioner Patsy Waits, a 21-year Austin resident, was appointed by Gov. Brian Sandoval to fill a vacancy on the Commission on Aging and then to fill a whole term after that from July 1, 2013, to June 30, 2015.
