WINNEMUCCA - The Bureau of Land Management, Winnemucca District is making significant progress toward the completion of its many Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation (ES&R;) projects. The projects focus on the resource impacts caused by last year's Holloway, Hanson, Long Canyon, Buckskin, and Buffalo Fires, all which burned over 250,000 acres. Additional seeding treatmetns are being completed on previous season fires, primarily the Hot Springs and China Garden Fires which burned in October 2011.

WINNEMUCCA - In the last article we highlighted some of the different strategies utilized in the world of drug enforcement to combat the ever-present narcotics problem in the United States. In this article we will highlight the specific effectiveness of criminal interdiction here in Humboldt County.
WINNEMUCCA - McKenzie Dupree Singer, who pleaded guilty to attempted burglary after leading law enforcement on a high speed car chase that ended in Humboldt County, was sentenced last week in Sixth Judicial District Court to 18 to 45 months in prison.
The Humboldt Sun received nearly 200 entries from young artists for its Easter coloring contest. Staff members at the Sun judged the many excellent entries and picked the three winners. Each winner received an Easter basket filled with goodies, such as art supplies, candy and $10 in chamber bucks.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is making available a final report that is designed to help guide the efforts of the states and other partners to conserve the sage grouse with a landscape level strategy that will benefit the species while maintaining a robust economy in the West. 
RENO - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced March 26 that the U.S. Department of Agriculture will launch its "StrikeForce" initiative in 10 additional states, including Nevada. The primary goal of the StrikeForce initiative is to increase partnership with rural communities and leverage community resources in targeted, persistent poverty communities. Vilsack noted that through the StrikeForce initiative, USDA will do more to partner with local and state governments and community organizations on projects that promote economic development and job creation.
