WINNEMUCCA - Area residents are being asked to "donate" their hearts to hospice. From now through Thursday, Feb. 28, the Frugal Flamingo Thrift Store is selling "Hearts for Hospice." The paper hearts may be purchased for $1 each. With each name on a heart, "we have another heart donation," said Humboldt Volunteer Hospice Executive Director Sherry Smith. The hearts will then be displayed at the Frugal Flamingo with all proceeds going to help fund the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice. Smith said "Hearts for Hospice" is aimed at encouraging more individuals, businesses and organizations to "partner" with HVH.

WINNEMUCCA - Humboldt General Hospital has purchased a bariatric stretcher for $15,963. The new stretcher increases the weight capacity for larger patients to be moved from place to place within the hospital.
WINNEMUCCA - Humboldt General Hospital's CEO and board members are looking at several possible dates for a planning session/retreat - and apparently, it would be a first.
MCDERMITT - The guidance counselor at McDermitt Combined School has created and been implementing the "McDermitt Character Trait of the month club." This is the seventh year of the character trait club. This club recognizes specific students every month who best demonstrate the monthly character trait. The guidance counselor teaches character trait lessons in the classroom. In addition, we send home information to parents about the trait and how they can help their children practice the trait.
WINNEMUCCA - Taylin Jesus Hotz, 18, was arrested Friday, Feb. 1, after Humboldt County Sheriff's Deputy Steve Radmanovich stopped the suspect's car and observed controlled substances and drug paraphernalia within, according to an HCSO news release.
ELKO - Great Basin College will host two Elko favorites on Thursday, March 7, at 7 p.m. Stephanie Schneiderman, an independent singer-song writer from Portland, Ore., will again take the GBC Theatre stage, this time with her special guest, Tony Furtado.

RENO - A loud blast of enemy fire met Staff Sgt. Anderson Muñoz on Nov. 18, 2011, at Forward Operating Base Shank in eastern Afghanistan. Muñoz, a Nevada Army National Guardsmen with Lima Troop, 1/221st Cavalry, was clearing a shooting range at the end of a day of marksmanship training with fellow soldiers.
WINNEMUCCA - AT&T experienced a "software-related issue" at their central Reno offices Monday night that shut down internet and phone service for parts of Nevada, including Winnemucca, according to regional representative John Britton.
WINNEMUCCA - Tony John Dehart, who pleaded guilty to luring a minor after having inappropriate online conversations with young girls, was sentenced Monday in Sixth Judicial District Court to 48 to 120 months in prison.
