Operation Easter seeking volunteers and supplies in fast lead-up to holiday

WINNEMUCCA - For many children, the promise of Easter morning fills their daydreams with thoughts chocolate bunnies and baskets brimming with colorful eggs.

Winterfest at LHS

Do you want to time travel? Well don't worry because you will get your chance during Winterfest week. Leadership is allowing us to jump on the time machine January 28th through February 2nd. Monday will be a future stop at the end of the world. Wear all black and be careful of who you talk to, they may possibly be infected. Bingo night will be held in the cafeteria starting at 6:30 pm. Games are 50 cents per card, $1.00 per card for the blackout prize.

Coeur Rochester announces plans for expansion

WINNEMUCCA - Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation plans a significant expansion of its Rochester operation in 2013, according to a news release on the company's website; the expansion will result in an increase of silver production from 2.8 million ounces in 2012 to 4.5 - 4.9 million ounces in 2013.

ELKO - The 47th Annual Fallon All Breeds Bull Sale is just around the corner. The sale will be held Feb. 16 at the Fallon Livestock Exchange at 11 a.m. Sifting of the bulls will be Feb. 15 at 7 a.m.

FREE ADMISSION TO GBC COWBOY POETRY EVENTS

WINNEMUCCA - The public is invited to attend two National Cowboy Poetry Gathering sessions at Great Basin College this Thursday, January 31. Award-winning poet James Galvin will present from 5:30 - 6:45 p.m. in room 203 of the Electrical and Industrial Technology Building. Galvin has published seven books of poetry including his latest title, As Is. His honors include a Lila Wallace Foundation award, a Lannan Literary award, and fellowships from numerous foundations.

GBC announces Dean's List

WINNEMUCCA - GBC Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Mike McFarlane and Vice President of Student Affairs Lynn Mahlberg announced the Dean's List of Great Basin College students for the Fall, 2011 semester. The Dean's List honors students with a 3.5 great point average for the semester.

Crouch sentencing continued

WINNEMUCCA - Sentencing for Coleton Crouch, who pleaded guilty to murder in October, was on the Sixth Judicial District Court schedule for Monday, but proceedings were continued.

Crutchfield sentenced to two to five years in domestic battery case

WINNEMUCCA - Steven Earl Crutchfield, who pleaded guilty to domestic battery in November, was sentenced Monday to 24 to 60 months in the Nevada Department of Corrections after telling Sixth Judicial District Judge Michael Montero he acted in self-defense but admitted he deserved jail time.

GBC seeks submissions for literary magazine

WINNEMUCCA - Argentum, the Great Basin College art and literary magazine, is seeking submissions of writing, photos, paintings, sculpture and any other mediums that can be represented in print for its 2013 edition. The magazine, now in its fifth year, is devoted to highlighting the excellent artistic expressions of GBC students, faculty and staff. Additionally, community members 18 and older are encouraged to submit work.
