ELKO - Christmas comes with many traditions. This year's annual Elko Regional Interfaith Christmas Crèche Exhibit is putting a spotlight on some of those traditions. Of course, the first tradition would be that of the family's nativity scene, which is the heart of the Crèche Exhibit.
WINNEMUCCA - The Humboldt County Library has a special section called The Nevada Room. It is open for patrons during regular library hours. The Nevada Room holds an abundance of local and state history, available through various mediums, including: microfilm, books, oral histories, files and maps. This invaluable amount of historical information (local and statewide) the Chinatown artifacts on display, the volumes of old photos, and more, made the Nevada Room a mini-museum in 1973.

WINNEMUCCA - Which team can engineer the tallest tower that will hold the weight of a giant marshmallow, using spaghetti and tape? Teams collaborate, using their creativity and critical thinking skills to develop the best plan. This was one of the activities used to kick off a week of project based learning this past summer with 30 teachers from White Pine, Elko, Lander and Humboldt counties.
WINNEMUCCA - Community members of Winnemucca and Reno volunteered their time out on the Santa Rosa Ranger District last weekend to rehabilitate areas burned in this past summer's wildfires.
WINNEMUCCA - The Nevada Highway Patrol welcomed native Nevadan Lt. Tom Ames, a former sergeant who relocated from Fallon to Winnemucca this past summer.
SACRAMENTO- The 2012-2013 waterfowl hunting season opened in October, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wants to remind hunters that hunting programs on national wildlife refuges in California, Nevada and southern Oregon are in full swing. Wetlands on most refuges have been flooded to capacity, providing prime habitat for the tens of thousands of migrating waterfowl and increasing hunt area availability.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Bureau of Land Management's Battle Mountain District signed the Record of Decision approving the Eureka Moly LLC's Mount Hope Molybdenum Mine in central Nevada about 23 miles northwest of Eureka near U.S. Highway 278 on public and private land in Eureka County.
WINNEMUCCA - Local residents are invited to "Beef Up the Blood Supply" later this month by giving blood.
DALE HARTLEY • Special to the Humboldt SunParamedics Tyler Lindsay and Kevin Grannis are members of the rescue staff at the new Humboldt General Hospital EMS station on Jaca Road in McDermitt. The new EMS station is just down the street from the fire station and sheriff's office substation. According to HGH officials, the crew members are normally on a 48-hour rotation at the McDermitt substation with one ambulance on site. The ambulance also has extrication capabilities, which are critical in the event of some motor vehicle accidents.

WINNEMUCCA - Christopher Jay Bullington, 34, of California, was arrested Friday, Nov. 23, on suspicion of sale of marijuana, transport of a controlled substance, and possession of methamphetamine after his vehicle was stopped on Interstate 80, according to a Humboldt County Sheriff's Office press release.
