WINNEMUCCA - Delicious food, good company, money, prizes and lots of sunshine marked Nevada Outdoor School's Fourth Annual Buckaroo Dutch Oven Cook-Off, held Saturday, Aug. 25, at Riverview Park.

Four arrested in connection with Flying J armed robbery

WINNEMUCCA - Winnemucca police detectives arrested four individuals Tuesday in connection with an armed robbery at the Lucky J Casino in the Flying J truck stop that occurred in the early morning hours of March 6.

WINNEMUCCA - Humboldt County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 7000 block of Sundown Drive on Tuesday about 4 p.m. on the report of a possible shooting and a person down at that location.

City council to get update on fire season from BLM

The Winnemucca City Council will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. at city hall, 90 West Fourth St.The meeting will include two proclamations by the city, one for Frontier Community Coalition Youth Award and another for National Public Lands Day.

FREE FLU SHOTS COMING TO WINNEMUCCA

WINNEMUCCA - Free flu shots will be available on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Winnemucca Events Center on Fairgrounds Road. The drive-through clinic is provided by the Nevada State Health Division.

WINNEMUCCA - Remember when "back to school" meant sparkling shoes, a dashing outfit, a package of bright pencils and crayons, notebooks and paper. It seems like a day ago that I stood proudly by our lilac bush, smiling as Dad snapped a photo and I prepared for the first grade with Mrs. Fisher, a darling if antiquated (probably pushing 50), bespectacled delight.

Survivors Overcoming and Recovering support group begins Sept. 24

WINNEMUCCA - A support group aimed at helping people recover from trauma has formed locally and will begin holding regular meetings next week. Survivors Overcoming and Recovering (SOAR) begins Monday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. at Montenegro School of TaeKwon Do.

Gun Show --

A two-day gun show wrapped up Sunday at the Winnemucca Convention Center, with lots of vendors selling guns and equipment, and plenty of visitors checking out the show. One of the more unusual vendors, Drop Dead Targets, was selling zombie targets. Adding to the gore, the targets explode when hit. The owner, Anthony Arroyo, was happy to show off his stuff. He's joined by Emily Arroyo and Lisa Arroyo.

A pretty string from Knott Creek and Blue Lake

Brandon Morris went fishing with his father, Scott Morris, brother Devin Morris and family friend Tony Vedis to Knott Creek and Blue Lake in northern Humboldt County. Brandon shows off the catch of the day.

A good day at Wilson Reservoir

John Watson and Walt Johnson took a fishing trip to Wilson Reservoir in northern Elko County on Aug. 20. The pair each brought in rainbow trout measuring 20 inches.

Code yellow lockdown at Grass Valley lifted Wed. morning

Person of interest apprehended

WINNEMUCCA - Grass Valley Elementary School's code yellow lockdown was lifted Wednesday morning after notification that the person of police interest in the area was apprehended, according to Superintendant Dr. David Jensen.
