Thousands of Guard members descend on the Biggest Little City

RENO - Members of the National Guard Association of the United States arrived in Reno en masse starting Sept. 9 for four days. The Nevada Guard plays host to the private association's 134th annual conference and exhibition. About 3,700 Army and Air Guard officers, their spouses, defense officials and industry representatives are registered from all 50 states, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the District of Columbia.

Nevada to participate in National Preparedness Month

CARSON CITY - The Nevada Division of Emergency Management/Homeland Security (NDEM) has committed to participate in National Preparedness Month to increase citizen preparedness throughout the state, according to a news release.

New AmeriCorps members welcomed in Winnemucca

WINNEMUCCA - Seven AmeriCorps members participated in a preservice orientation on Sept. 5. Four more members will participate in a similar orientation on Sept. 11. AmeriCorps members are serving in a number of locations around Winnemucca, including Humboldt Volunteer Hospice, the senior center, Nevada Outdoor School, the Winnemucca Ministerial Association's Soup Kitchen, French Ford Middle School, and the Winnemucca Community Garden.

NRCS wants local input on conservation programs

RENO - The NRCS is asking local work group representatives to bring their comments on Farm Bill programs to the Nevada state technical advisory committee meeting on Oct. 22.

GOED and Nevada Mining Association team up

STATELINE - The Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) and the Nevada Mining Association are forming a new statewide Supply Chain Committee to encourage mining support businesses to establish and expand their local footprints in the state, GOED Executive Director Steve Hill said.
