CARSON CITY - The Nevada Division of Emergency Management/Homeland Security (NDEM) has committed to participate in National Preparedness Month to increase citizen preparedness throughout the state, according to a news release.
WINNEMUCCA - Seven AmeriCorps members participated in a preservice orientation on Sept. 5. Four more members will participate in a similar orientation on Sept. 11. AmeriCorps members are serving in a number of locations around Winnemucca, including Humboldt Volunteer Hospice, the senior center, Nevada Outdoor School, the Winnemucca Ministerial Association's Soup Kitchen, French Ford Middle School, and the Winnemucca Community Garden.

STATELINE - The Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) and the Nevada Mining Association are forming a new statewide Supply Chain Committee to encourage mining support businesses to establish and expand their local footprints in the state, GOED Executive Director Steve Hill said.

RENO - Recently, the CDC released the 2011 National Immunization Survey (NIS) Teen report. Coverage data shows that Nevada's immunization rates for teens 13 through 17 years old continue to improve for all recommended vaccinations. For tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap), coverage rates met the Healthy People 2020 objective of 80 percent for the first time with a coverage rate of 80.2 percent in the state. Nationally, vaccination rates in adolescents continue to improve for tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) vaccine and for meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4).
