First outdoor market to be held in Kingston Sept. 1 Event to feature fresh produce, kids games and a barbecue

WINNEMUCCA - People are expected to flock to Kingston from all over for the first Kingston Outdoor Market to be held Sept. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lee Baker Park.

Enrollment Still Open for New Students

WINNEMUCCA - While most Nevada students will be grabbing their backpacks and heading to the bus or carpool, Nevada Virtual Academy (NVVA) students will be taking a few steps from the breakfast table to their computers to log in for their first day of school next week.

School board meets Tuesday, August 28, 2012

WINNEMUCCA - The Humboldt County School District Board of Trustees will be holding its next meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 28 beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the district office. Items on the agenda include approval of French Ford Middle School janitorial bid; schedule date and time for a workshop to establish board goals; approval of the Student Activity Fund Policy; SIOP training for Winnemucca Grammar School and review of the District Improvement Plan. Public comment will follow.

The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends blocking harmful UV rays with window film

WINNEMUCCA - While it's understood that taking sun safety precautions is important outside, few people realize they can sustain sun damage indoors, too. While both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation from the sun can harm the skin and lead to skin cancers, UVB is effectively blocked by glass. However, at least 50 percent of UVA rays can pass through windows.
