Library to host exhibit featuring local artist Reception planned for Mitchell on April 10

WINNEMUCCA - The Humboldt County Library will be hosting an exhibit entitled "Eclectic Palette" by local artist Lynn Mitchell during the month of April.An artist reception for Mitchell will be held on April 10 in the Humboldt County Library Meeting Room from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Lowry announces March Students of the Month

WINNEMUCCA - Lowry is filled with many wonderful students, but there are four students that worked hard in the month of March. Those students are Sarah Smith (freshman), Bridgette Gliboy (sophomore), Jolene Dunlap (Junior) and Jonathan Landa (senior).

Elko resident pleads guilty to selling methadone

WINNEMUCCA -An Elko woman who sold methadone to a confidential source at a Winnemucca location pleaded guilty Monday in Sixth District Court to sale of a controlled substance.

Celebrating life -

The Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary, along with United Blood Services in Reno, hosted its annual Community Blood Drive on Tuesday and Wednesday in the West Hall of the Winnemucca Convention Center. The Auxiliary, one of Humboldt County's longest standing and most respected volunteer organizations, hosts three blood drives each year. Events will also take place in July and November.

Richard Egan - Class of 1983

OROVADA - Just prior to the Bannock-Paiute Indian War of 1879 in Oregon, well known War Chief Egan (E-hee-gant/Ezich'que-gah [Blanket Wearer]) agreed, with some reluctance, to join the movement to go to war. Mounted on his buckskin war horse and accompanied by his wife, Evening Starr, his two teenage daughters, his oldest son Honey, daughter-in law Hattie and infant grandson Herbert, he led his three bands of warriors to the battle grounds, located near Pendleton, Ore.

Residents warned of 'work from home' scams

WINNEMUCCA - Would you like to quit your job? Or perhaps you just need more income to build a college fund, buy a new home or go on your dream vacation. Most Americans have seen advertisements with lines like these for work opportunities that can be done at home, and while there are legitimate telecommuting jobs, work at home scams still abound.

Storm clouds engulf the mountains in this photo taken Sunday morning while looking up Water Canyon. The month of March was .9 degrees above the 1981-2010 normal at 42 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Winnemucca Municipal Airport reported 1.00 inches of precipitation for the month, which was .17 inches above normal. Winnemucca received 6.6 inches of snow, which was 3.4 inches above normal, and a daily precipitation record of .44 inches was set on March 18.

Lowry High School receives national student council award
