Lowry student seeks assistance to go to Australia on People to People Ambassador Program

WINNEMUCCA - Torrey Nash Herrera, who is a junior at Lowry High School, has been nominated three years in a row to the People to People Ambassador Program to Australia, which is coming up this summer. His only problem is that he has never been able to attend the program for lack of finances to pay the tuition. Herrera is reaching out to the community for any help he can get.

Newmont Mining Corp. awards $5,000 grant to Safe Haven Rescue Zoo

IMLAY - Anne Bogadi, Newmont metallurgist with Business Excellence, visited Safe Haven Rescue Zoo on Feb. 21 to present a $5,000 check to assist with the funding toward material to construct a new 10,000 square foot enclosure and enjoy a tour of the facility.

County board of equalization to meet on Wednesday

WINNEMUCCA - The Humboldt County Board of Equalization will be holding their next meeting on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in the meeting room of the courthouse. Following the call to order, the board will hear public comments, then discuss and possibly approve minutes from their Jan. 17 meeting and the appeal hearing held Feb. 22. There will also be a second opportunity for public comment before the meeting is adjourned.
