NV Energy Foundation supports Nevada nonprofits with over $455,000 in grants

The NV Energy Foundation contributed over $455,000 to 35 nonprofit organizations statewide during the third quarter of 2014.

Affordable Care Act enrollment until Feb. 15

CARSON CITY - Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) The open enrollment period for subsidized health insurance, available through Nevada Health Link, began Nov. 15. This enrollment period ends Feb. 15, 2015. While there is no enrollment period for Nevada Medicaid, changes to the Medicaid application process will be implemented as a result of changes that have been developed to provide an efficient enrollment experience for those applying for either subsidized private insurance, Medicaid, Nevada Check Up or a combination of these services.

SAN DIEGO - The IRS reminded thousands of Nevada taxpayers not to overlook the Saver's Tax Credit as the year winds down. This credit helps offset part of the first $2,000 workers voluntarily contribute to IRAs and 401(k) plans and similar workplace retirement programs.

Sophia Snyder in cancer remission

Sophia Elizabeth Snyder turned 3 on Nov. 3. She shares her home with her dad Matthew and mom Anna along with other siblings. On Feb. 21, 2014, Sophia was diagnosed with a germ cell tumor. On Feb. 24 the tumor was removed along with her left ovary and fallopian tube. Fortunately, after three rounds of chemotherapy, Sophia is currently in remission.

Ag training available to producers

RENO - University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and the Nevada Department of Agriculture will offer a Good Agricultural Practices training, focusing on risk management in fruit and vegetable production 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Nov. 20. The training will be held at the Nevada Department of Agriculture, 405 S. 21st St. in Sparks. Participants will learn principles of good agricultural and handling practices related to reducing risk from microbial food hazards and fundamental components of food safety as part of a management plan.

Paradise Valley 'Bullhead Hunt Club' gets one-year conditional use permit approval

Conditional use permit approval will open the way for the "Bullhead Hunting Club" on the Grayson Ranch in Paradise Valley, Nev. The property was actually approved a number of years ago for a hunt club when Nevada First Corporation owned the land. That permit expired in 2008 and was not renewed until now.
