Members of the Lowry High School Choirs participated in the NE Nevada Honor Choir on October 14th at 6:00 PM at the Elko Convention center. The Choir was led by Dr. James Jirak director of choral studies at Boise State University.
The Nevada League of Cities director, Wes Henderson, gave the city council members an update on bill draft resolutions for the 2015 legislative session which include expanding the use of residential construction taxes to improve parks; establish and fund a Main Street USA program in Nevada; define "extraordinary use of personnel or resources" for public records requests; remove the duplication of city and county business license requirements for the sale of wine and liquor; and amend the language of NRS 354.596 to include the words "or before" to dates in which governing boards are required to hold hearings.
Eight candidates have made it to the final stages of consideration for the job of Humboldt County Administrator. The commissioners called on the State Public Agency Insurance POOL-PACT human resources (HR) department to help recruit applicants, evaluate their qualifications, and perform reference checks as well as full background checks to determine which applicants should move to the interview stage.

WASHINGTON - As part of the US Department of Agriculture's (USDA) commitment to strengthening rural economies, Secretary Tom Vilsack announced a new state-by-state "Made in Rural America" report illustrating the impact of USDA investments in rural communities. Each state factsheet highlights specific USDA investments in rural businesses, manufacturing, energy, water and other infrastructure development. They also outline how USDA is helping rural communities attract businesses and families by investing in housing and broadband.
RENO - A man who supervised and directed an illegal drug distribution operation in Reno from his home in southern California, was sentenced on Monday, Oct. 20, to 19.5 years in federal prison and five years of supervised release, announced U.S. Attorney Daniel G. Bogden, for the District of Nevada.

WASHINGTON - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack recently announced the implementation of a new Farm Bill initiative that will provide relief to farmers affected by severe weather, including drought. The Actual Production History (APH) Yield Exclusion, available nationwide for farmers of select crops starting next spring, allows eligible producers who have been hit with severe weather to receive a higher approved yield on their insurance policies through the federal crop insurance program.
