City council to meet on Tuesday

WINNEMUCCA - The Winnemucca City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m. at City Hall, 90 W. Fourth St.

BLM to gather wild horses from Tri-State Calico Complex

WINNEMUCCA - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Winnemucca District, Black Rock Field Office has issued the Decision Record for the Tri-State-Calico Complex Wild Horse and Burro Gather. The BLM will gather approximately 1,298 wild horses and 140 wild burros. As many as 268 wild horses will be released back to the range following the gather. The gather area is located northeast of Gerlach within Humboldt and Washoe counties. The proposed gather is tentatively scheduled to begin in December 2011 and will last approximately 40 - 50 days.

BLM issues decision for Twin Creeks Mine Vista Pit expansion

WINNEMUCCA - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Winnemucca District, Humboldt River Field Office has approved a Newmont Mining Company plan to expand the existing Vista Pit at Twin Creeks Mine. The Twin Creeks Mine is 35 miles northeast of Winnemucca in Humboldt County.

Man arrested following auto vs. pedestrian accident

WINNEMUCCA - A man was arrested Saturday following an automobile vs. pedestrian accident that left the victim on life support, according to a Winnemucca Police Department press release.

Local volunteers sought for third annual BLM/RESPECT cleanup day

WINNEMUCCA - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Humboldt River Field Office, along with the RESPECT group of Winnemucca, will be holding its third annual community cleanup on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. The objective of the event is to clean up trash on public land in the area around the Bloody Shins Trailhead.

Senior Center craft fair and bake sale

WINNEMUCCA - The Pleasant Senior Center will be holding its craft fair and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the center at 1480 Lay St. There will be cakes and pies for sale.

2011 Humboldt County 4-H Dog Show results announced

WINNEMUCCA - The Humboldt County 4-H Dog Show was held on Sept. 15 in the 4-H Arena at the Fairgrounds. The results of the show are as follows:

Fall Open Horse Show and Play Day Oct. 1

WINNEMUCCA - There will be an Open Horse Show and Play Day hosted by the Humboldt County 4-H Program beginning at 9 a.m. on Oct. 1 at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds Main Outdoor Arena. This show is open to all riders. You do not have to be in 4-H to participate in the show.

Firewood permits available for north-central Nevada

WINNEMUCCA - Firewood cutting permits are now available at the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Office in Winnemucca and the Pershing County Farm Service Agency in Lovelock.
