Lowry's Child Development classes offering one-hour preschool

Lowry High School's child development classes and their teacher have some special things planned for children enrolled in their spring session mini pre-school starting Wednesday, April 9. The mini pre-school hour will be twice a week for six weeks (ending through May 14).

LAS VEGAS, March 11, 2014 - A surge in gas consumption, as state motorists hit the road early this year, has caused state fuel prices to rise significantly. Prices are following their typical yearly trend by moving up during the spring, peaking during the summer and decreasing through the fall. Nevada's average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline is registering at $3.50, according to the AAA Nevada monthly gas survey.

Winnemucca Domestic Violence Services has several events planned in April to increase awareness about sexual assault, crime victims rights and child abuse.

Resident escapes trailer fire safely

A trailer on Lynx Drive caught fire at approximately midnight Sunday. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. There was one occupant at the time of the fire, but he was able to exit safely, according to Winnemucca Rural Fire Chief Ron Shremp. There were no injuries. Shremp said six engines were on scene and it took fire fighters approximately 15 minutes to extinguish the fire. Crews remained on scene for about two hours.MICHAEL MICHAELSEN • Special to The Sun

Humboldt County Commissioners hold a day-long budget work meeting on Monday. The budgets for each county department and elected office are scheduled at specific times, and although an agenda item may go longer than scheduled, no item will start before its scheduled time so that if members of the public will know the time frame for a specific budget discussion during this open meeting.
