WINNEMUCCA - The Northern Nevada Alzheimer's Association sponsored its annual conference at the Nugget in Sparks. Amazingly, it was even better this year. I marvel at the array of guest speakers and topics. During the next few months I will be sharing some of that information with you.

WINNEMUCCA - The Winnemucca Grammar School is selling cookbooks that include recipes from past and present teachers, administrators, staff members and parents.

Local senior center a source for a variety of services, activities

WINNEMUCCA - Winnemucca's Pleasant Senior Center is known as a social gathering place for members, but it also serves as a resource for several other services. Everyone is welcome at the center, but services are geared toward those aged 60 and above.

Saddle-trained horses available for adoption on Saturday, May 18

CARSON CITY - The Bureau of Land Management, the Nevada Department of Agriculture and the Nevada Department of Corrections are hosting the second of three annual saddle-trained horse adoption events in Carson City on Saturday, May 18, at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City.

Good agricultural practices training offered in June for producers

Focuses on food safety practices in fruit and vegetable production

RENO -The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and the Nevada Department of Agriculture will be hosting the Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) Training for food safety June 5-7 at the Nevada Department of Agriculture in Sparks. The free, three-day program, sponsored by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service Farm-to-School Grant Program, will focus on on-farm food-safety practices related to fruit and vegetable production. Participants will learn principles of good agricultural and handling practices.

WINNEMUCCA - The Nevada State Legislature has considered jettisoning the Nevada Proficiency Examination. They reason that since it is created by individuals who have little or no knowledge of Nevada academic standards (not true) and that many seniors cannot score high enough to pass the exam and thus graduate (true), something must be inherently wrong.
