Lunches are served each weekday at noon and soup and croutons is served at 11 a.m. the Pleasant Senior Center, 1480 Lay Street. Lunches are open to the public. Suggested minimum donation is $4 for seniors age 60 and older. Visitors must be 16 years or older. Their meal is $10. Hot soup at croutons served daily with meal. Low-fat milk available daily.
Last Thursday, the Pershing County commissioners rejected Burning Man's five-year compensation package of $400,000 per year for law enforcement in Black Rock City this summer. Commissioners Larry Rackley, Joe Crim and Shayla Hudson led the meeting, with Hudson participating via Zoom. After the commissioners reached their unanimous decision, the few dozen attendees clapped and cheered.

After securing a lease with the City of Winnemucca for a 177.3-acre parcel to the west of the Winnemucca Municipal Airport to serve as a future transloading facility for the Thacker Pass site, Lithium Americas is hoping to begin construction of the facility as soon as possible, according to Lithium Americas Vice President of Government & Community Relations Tim Crowley. Their request for a variance to increase the allowed height of structures from 35 feet to 137 feet for silos to be constructed on the parcel was tabled by the Humboldt County Board of Commissioners pending review from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The Lovelock Softball Association (LSA) launched its seventh season on Thursday, June 6. Eight teams each paid $250 to support the summertime attraction at McDougal Park.
The Glenn Wasson Memorial basketball tournament and fundraiser is older than some of the players at last weekend's games. Jesse Canchola (Class of 2002) remembers Wasson well and fondly. He wants his legacy to live on. In 2002, Wasson assisted coach Lance Condie when the Mustangs won the league championship and were state runners up.
The Battle Mountain 8-10-year-old all-star softball team is in Elko for the District 3 Tournament at Newton Field. White Pine and Fernley open play on Thursday at 8 a.m. and Battle Mountain takes on host Elko at 10 a.m.
Lowry High School had 19 student/athletes travel to Reno on May 30-31 for the 34th annual Northern Nevada weight competition at McQueen High School. The athletes competed in the squat, bench and power clean.

The long season for junior high school cowboys and cowgirls has hit its national finals, which begins Sunday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa. Five Humboldt County cowboys and cowgirls will compete, as well as a pair of Battle Mountain Rodeo Club members.
