PLEASANT CENTER MENU for Dec. 5-11

Lunches are served each weekday at noon and soup and croutons is served at 11 a.m. the Pleasant Senior Center, 1480 Lay Street. Lunches are open to the public. Suggested minimum donation is $4 for seniors age 60 and older. Visitors must be 16 years or older. Their meal is $10. Hot soup at croutons served daily with meal. Low-fat milk available daily. Safety of food after it has been served & taken from the center is the responsibility of the consumer.

Winnemucca community raises over $3,000 in honor of Will DeLong

WINNEMUCCA — On Saturday, Nov. 30, the Winnemucca community came together to honor the memory of Will DeLong and support a cause close to his heart. A fundraiser was held during the varsity girls basketball game at Lowry High School, with all proceeds benefiting The Family Support Center’s work with victims of violence and individuals in crisis.

Ribbon cutting ceremony celebrates first taxiway

On Thursday, Nov. 21, dozens of people gathered at Derby Field Airport, nine miles southwest of Lovelock for a groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting ceremony. Airport manager and outgoing county commissioner Larry Rackley cut the ribbon. The group celebrated a major addition to the airport, its first- ever taxiway. “We have a North/South runway 2/20, which is the main runway and we have East/West runway 8/26. When this taxiway project is completed in the spring of 2025, we will have a partial taxiway,” said Rackley.

Distance, workforce shortages complicate mental health access in rural Nevada communities

The remote ranching community of Wells, at the intersection of Interstate 80 and Highway 93 in the state’s northeastern Elko County, offers examples of the culture of self-reliance, lack of mental health providers and limited privacy that can often hinder discussions of mental health and outreach for help in rural areas. Reagan Brandt, 16, a cheerleader and Future Farmers of America (FFA) member, said when her parents grew up, they didn’t learn about mental health issues or how to navigate them.

Common scam practices include phone calls that appear to come from NV Energy where the caller demands immediate payment and threatens disconnection.

With 889 respondents, this year’s survey provides a comprehensive overview of the challenges Nevada’s small businesses face as they navigate a rapidly evolving economic landscape. Since the survey was first distributed to businesses throughout the Silver State in 2022, the Nevada Small Business Development Center is now able to distinguish data trends and understand the shifting landscape of emerging and sustained challenges.
