During Lowry High School’s upcoming band performance on March 13 at 7 p.m. former Lowry band student Kelly Dugger will be conducting the concert as the students perform her composed works. The concert is free, although donations are accepted and greatly appreciated, and will take place in the old gym at Lowry.
RENO — After a tough exit in the first round of the 2023 state championships, the McDermitt High School girls basketball team came back with vengeance on its way to the 1A state title game this season. The Lady Bulldogs came in as a young team this year, with just one senior on the roster in Nicolette Northrup.
Last Thursday, Pershing County girls basketball lost 58-31 to Needles, Calif., in the state semifinals. They competed at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno. Needles advanced to the title game and beat North Tahoe 48-34 in the Virginia Street gym on Friday in the championship.
Battle Mountain NNA swimmers Nevaeh Serna and Weston Reiva competed in the 2024 Valentines Day Age Group from Feb. 9-11 at the Carson Valley Swim Center in Minden. Serna earned the high-point award in her division, winning the 100-yard back stroke on 2 minutes, 27.27 seconds and the 50-yard backstroke at 32.45.
The second half of the Nevada High School Rodeo Association got back rolling on Feb. 16-17 in Pahrump. Humboldt County’s Billy DeLong came back home with a pair of average victories in boys cutting and saddle bronc. DeLong scored 143 points, placing second in the first performance with 70 points and winning the final performance with 73 point

The state agency charged with overseeing services to Nevadans with disabilities or special health care needs is facing “major vacancy rates,” with the largest shortfall among social workers and specialists who provide oversight to state long-term care facilities, lawmakers were told Wednesday.
