Lady Longhorns outscore Nighthawks 54-3 in three-game, Northern 2A sweep

The Battle Mountain High School softball team enjoyed its opening weekend at home, sweeping Silver Stage by a combined score of 54-3 to improve to 3-0 in the Northern 2A.


Battle Mountain 15, Silver Stage 0

Sophomore Aspen Swanger threw a perfect game in her three innings of work, striking out six of the nine batters she faced. She threw just 31 pitches.

After scoring three runs in the first inning, Battle Mountain ended the game early with seven runs in the second inning and five in the third.

Stevlana Martinez, Jazmin Johnson Heidy Amezcua, Paitynn Johns and Eimilie Johnson had two hits apiece. Eimilie Johnson and Johns each had a home run and Hailey Edgar tripled for the Lady Longhorns.

Battle Mountain 18, Silver Stage 3

It was much of the same in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, as the Lady Longhorns led 11-0 after two innings of play.

The Nighthawks scored their only runs of the weekend in the top of the third inning, plating three runs.

Battle Mountain finished off the contest with four runs in the third inning and three in the fourth.

Alissa Heinz and Edgar led the way with three hits apiece, with Edgar having two triples. Kelcee Robey, Ivy Peterson, Heaven Martinez and Jessenda Guizar each had two hits.

Swanger picked up the win in 3.1 innings of work. She struck out eight and walked one.


Battle Mountain 21, Silver Stage 0

Ella Moore and Swanger combined for another shutout, with Swanger striking out two batters.

Edgar paced the hitting attack with three hits, three RBI, two runs scored and a home run. Swanger also had three hits, three runs scored and two RBI. 

Addison Matheus, Amezcua and Moore each had two hits. 

Battle Mountain is off this week and host Oasis Academy on March 22-23.
