January 3

In the case of William Hutson, charged with DUI – 1st Offense. Court ruled as follows: Sentenced to 30 days in jail with 28 days stayed for period of 1 year. Stayed jail time on the condition he serve 2 days. Defendant was given 2 days credit for time served.

Fined $585, which is to be paid by monthly payments of $50 beginning April 1, 2024. Online DUI school and victim impact panel to be completed by April 1, 2024.


January 4

In the case of Kody Andrew Jock, charged with, 1: Resisting a Public Officer, 2: Resisting a Public officer, 3: Petit Larceny. Bench Trial held – Criminal. County had 2 witnesses. It appearing to the court by evidence and testimony presented that the defendant was found guilty of Count 1, Resisting a Public Officer. DDA Steve Girardot motioned to dismiss counts 2 and 3 due to lack of testimony. 

The court ruled as follows: Count 1 – Fined $1,140, which were converted to 7 days jail time and given credit for time served. Motion to dismiss counts 2 and 3 was accepted. 


In the case of Rafael Alfonso Medina, charged with Domestic Battery – 1st Offense. Pursuant to negotiation, DDA Steve Girardot amended the complaint to Battery with a Deadly Weapon, which was acknowledged by all parties. 

The defendant entered a No Contest plea to the amended charge. The court canvassed his plea and accepted the same. After hearing from all parties, the court ruled as follows: Fined $1,140 in fines and fees which were converted to jail time and given credit for time served. Bond exonerated. Jury demand verbally withdrawn by defense. 


January 9

In the case of Hollie Sue Wilson, charged with Battery. DDA Wendy Maddox informed the court that the victim in this matter does not want to proceed with case, therefore a motion to dismiss was presented. Without objection from the defense, the court accepted the motion.


In the case of Tabitha Garcia, charged with Driving w/ Suspended License. After hearing explanation from the defendant, the court accepted her reasoning for missing her last court date. 

The parties discussed this matter prior to going on the record. Pursuant to negotiation, the defendant entered a No Contest plea, which the court canvassed and accepted the same.

The court ruled as follows: Fined $310, which is to be suspended for a period of 6 months on the condition of no new like violations.


In the case of Lorna Louise Elms, charged with, 1: Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2: Possession of a Controlled Substance. 

The court indicated that the defendant is current with her payments and/or community service. The remaining $370 owed was converted to the community service hours complete. 


January 10

In the case of Caoimhe Sue Grau, charged with Petit Larceny. The victim in this matter was not present and no restitution is being requested. The court ruled as follows: Fined $1,40, to be paid in monthly payments of $50 beginning March 1, 2024.


January 11

In the case of Sasha Renee Schindler, charged with, 1: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 2: Walking Along and Upon Highways. Parties reiterated the plea agreement in abstentia that was filed in this matter. 

The court reviewed and accepted the filings. Pursuant to negotiation and the plea agreement previously filed, the defendant entered a No Contest plea to all counts and the following sentence to run concurrent with case 23CR00703. Sentenced to 6 months jail to be suspended on the condition of the defendant have no like arrests in Humboldt County for 2 years. Defendant is hereby released from custody. 


In the case of Sasha Renee Schindler, charged with Drugs Which May Not Be Introduced Into Interstate Commerce. Parties reiterated the plea agreement in abstentia that was filed in this matter. The court reviewed and accepted the filings. Pursuant to negotiation and the plea agreement previously filed, the defendant entered a No Contest plea to all counts and the following sentence to run concurrent with case 23CR00710. 

Sentenced to 6 months jail to be suspended on the condition of the defendant have no like arrests in Humboldt County for 2 years. Defendant is hereby released from custody. 


In the case of Seth Alan Schoonover, charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. Pursuant to negotiation, DA Kevin Pasquale amended the criminal complaint to NRS 454.351, which was acknowledged by all parties. 

Following the amendment, a plea agreement is abstentia was filed. Defendant entered a No Contest plea to NRS 454.351 and was sentenced as follows: Fined $1,140 with $150 converted to jail time and given credit for time served. 

The remaining $990 is to be paid by monthly payments of $50 beginning March 1, 2024.


In the case of Seth Alan Schoonover, charged with Convicted Person to Notify Law Enforcement of Change of Address.

Pursuant to negotiation, the defendant entered a No Contest plea, which was canvassed and accepted by the court. After hearing from all parties, the court ruled as follows: Fined $640, fees suspended for a period of 2 years due to compliance and on the condition of no violations of the law other than minor traffic.


January 16

In the case of Edgar John Morris, charged with, 1: Driving in Excess of Posted Speed Zone 11-20 Over, 2: Operating a Vehicle w/ Fictitious Plates, 3: Driving w/ License Cancelled/Suspended/Revoked, 4: Open Container, 5: Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance. 

Defendant entered a Guilty plea to all 5 counts, which the court canvassed and accepted. Pursuant to negotiation, DDA Wendy Maddox proposed fines and fees be converted to jail time and given credit for time served. The court accepted the proposal pursuant to negotiation.


In the case of Edgar John Morris, charged with, 1: Driving w/ License Revoked, 2: Proof of Insurance Required, 3: Suspended License Plates. Defendant entered a Guilty plea to all 3 counts, which the court canvassed and accepted. 

Pursuant to negotiation, DDA Wendy Maddox proposed fines and fees be converted to jail time and given credit for time served. The court accepted the proposal pursuant to negotiation.


In the case of Juan Miguel Mojica, charged with, 1: Resisting a Public Officer, 2: Drawing a Deadly Weapon in a Threatening Manner. The court is not inclined to any further continuances and ruled to forfeit the cash bail posed and close the case. Defendant is release from any pretrial supervision on this case.

January 6

Male Juvenile, age 17, was arrested for, 1: Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 2: Possession to Sell Schedule I/II, flntrzpm/GHB – 1st Offense,  3: Manufacture, Import, Possess, or Use Dangerous Weapons, 4: Possess, With Intent to Sell, Schedule III, IV, or V Controlled Substance – 1st Offense. No Bail.


Natasha Itati Hernandez, age 18, was arrested for, 1: Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 2: Possession to Sell Schedule I/II, flntrzpm/GHB – 1st Offense, 3: Possess, With Intent to Sell, Schedule III, IV, or V Controlled Substance – 1st Offense. Bail $15,640.


January 7

Nathan Ray Odoms, age 36, was arrested for Failure to Appear – Bench Warrant. No Bail


January 12

Frederick Thornton, age 51, was arrested for Domestic Battery. Bail $3,000.


Michelle Dudley, age 34, was arrested for Domestic Battery. Bail $3,000.


January 13

Tristan David Gillam, age 26, was arrested for, 1: DUI – 2nd Offense, 2: Driving While License Canceled. Bail $1,855.


January 15

Hollie Sue Wilson, age 40, was arrested for, 1: Driving w/ a Suspended Driver’s License, 2: Suspended Registration, 3: Proof of Insurance Required. Bail $1,290. 


January 17

Rachel Chavez, age 31, was arrested for, 1: Domestic Batter – 1st Offense-Simple, 2: Assault with the Use of a Deadly Weapon – Weapon Violation. Bail $23,000.
