PCHS boys ends regular season with two wins

The Pershing County Mustangs basketball team ended their regular season last week with two league wins. 

On Tuesday, they hosted Silver Stage for senior night, defeating them 60-25. 

On Friday the Mustangs traveled to Fallon to beat Oasis Academy (53-40).

The Mustangs came out strong against the Nighthawks.They were determined to see their seniors off with a win.

Conner Fecht and Aaron Kienbaum graduate this spring. Travis Donaldson led the scoring with 19 points. Trenton Rhodes scored 15 points. 

Kienbaum and Michael Reitz also reached the double digits with ten points each.

"It was a great game to send our seniors out on a high note. Aaron and Conner played their hearts out. I'm proud of the student athletes they are," said coach Jesse Canchola.

"The Oasis game was a dog fight. We had already clinched the seventh seed but we knew we had to keep playing hard," he said. "Oasis was very physical and we needed that kind of game to get us ready for zone."

The 2A Northern League playoffs take place in West Wendover this weekend. 

Pershing County plays Yerington in the first round on Thursday at 4:40 p.m., Mountain Time.

The coach says the Mustangs want revenge for their two regular season losses to the Yerington Lions.

"The kids will be ready to play," he says.
