Lady Bucks clinch home playoff game with road win over Greenwave

After beginning the Northern 3A East with three home games, the Lowry High School girls basketball team has been on the road for the last five contests.

The road trip that started on Jan. 17, concluded this past Friday in Fallon with a 52-34 win over Churchill County.

The Lady Bucks clinched a first-round, home playoff game in the Northern 3A Regional Championships on Monday, Feb. 12, or Tuesday, Feb. 13.

The semifinals and championship take place at Elko High School on Feb. 16-17.

Lowry improved to 7-1 in the Northern 3A East and 17-5 overall.

Lowry raced out to a big lead in the opening eight minutes of play and cruised from there. The Lady Bucks led by as many as 18 points, when the Greenwave closed the gap to 32-20 at halftime, which included a 35-foot bank shot at the buzzer.

Lowry’s advantage reached 21 points in the fourth quarter, before settling for the 18-point win. 

Savannah Stoker and Britain Backus paced Lowry with 23 and 21 points, respectively.

Bryce Brinkerhoff added five points, Miranda Draper two and Maura Braatz one.

Lowry closes out the regular season this week with Winterfest. 

The Lady Bucks host Dayton on Friday for senior night at 6 p.m. Fernley makes its way to Winnemucca on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip. 

The Vaqueros won the first meeting 66-52 in Fernley.

It is also Hall of Fame day on Saturday, as Frank Maestrejuan, Julia Dufurrena Dendary and Mitch Pollock will be inducted.
