Pershing County track and field team competes in Fernley meet

The Pershing County High School track and field team competed in the Fernley Invitational last Friday.

Angelo Gibson placed first in the 400 meters with a personal best and 800 meters.

He, Ashton Jimenez, Aaron Zelaya, Jorden Fitch, and Ramon Sanchez set personal bests  in multiple events.

Pershing County’s Chelsea Woodard set a personal best in the long jump.


“The wind was crazy that day and the meet ended early because their light and power failed,” said coach Chelsea Montes.

Luis Sanchez, Denzel Zaldivar, Izayuh McGlothin and Josiah Hunt placed second in the 4x 200 and 4x400 relays. Gibson, Fitch, Zelaya and Jimenez finished second in the 4x800. 

The men’s varsity placed second out of ten schools with 60 team points. Fernley came in first with 128. Yerington rounded out the top three with 37.

On the girls side, Khloe Montes placed third in the 400 meter race. She, Kenya Vaughan, Chelsea Woodard and Emma Blondheim PRd in multiple events.

Elizabeth Nava Gonzalez, Woodard, Vaughan and Montes came in third in the 4 X 200 relay.

Coach Montes, Ben Halverson and the team host the Pershing County Invitational this Friday, April 19. It starts at 9 a.m.
