Lady Bucks stay in playoff hunt with two wins over Spartans

With the end of the regular season quickly approaching, the Lowry High School softball team was desperately looking to get some wins to remain in playoff contention.

The Lady Bucks did just that winning the final two games 11-2 and 9-6 after dropping the opener 9-7. Lowry improved to 3-6 in the Northern 3A East and 9-15 overall.


Spring Creek 9, Lowry 7

Lowry put five runs on the board in the first inning and led 6-2 at one point but could not hold on to the lead. Maddison McClure, Bailey Peterson, Crisslyn Rodriguez each had RBI singles, with Isabell Upton driving in the last runs of the top of the first to lead 5-0.

After the Spartans scored twice in the bottom of the first, the Lady Bucks added to their advantage in the top of the second after a ground out by Hayden Case that drove in Savannah Stoker, who tripled with one out.

That was all the offense for Lowry until the seventh inning, as Spring Creek closed the gap to 6-5 with a single run in the second inning and two more in the third. The Spartans took the lead for good, posting four runs in the fourth inning. With one out in the fourth inning, the Spartans put together four straight singles to go in front 7-6. A fifth single scored two more runs for Spring Creek.

Liliana Aguilar, Rodriguez, McClure and Case each had two hits. Stoker went the distance in the circle, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 14 hits. She struck out 11 and walked none.


Lowry 11, Spring Creek 2

In the second game on Friday, Lowry used the long ball with home runs from Cambria Tisue and Natalya Guizar. The Lady Bucks tied the game in the third inning on a sac fly by Guizar to score Aguilar. 

Lowry took the lead for good in the fourth inning, scoring three runs           started by an RBI-double from Peterson. Tisue and Aguilar followed with singles to give Lowry a 4-1 lead.

Up 6-2 in the seventh inning, McClure doubled home Case and moments later Tisue hit a three-run homer to give Lowry a 10-1 advantage. One batter later, Guizar hit a inside the park home run.

Guizar had a team-high three hits to go with three RBI, while Tisue was 2-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. McClure also had two hits.

Stoker earned the win in the complete-game win, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, She struck out 10 and walked one.

 

Lowry 9, Spring Creek 6

In the series finale on Saturday morning, Lowry overcame a 2-0 deficit with four runs in the third inning to go in front 5-1 and never looked back.

The Lady Bucks picked up two important insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning off an RBI-singles by Isabel Upton and Adalyn Entwistle.

Spring Creek closed the gap to 9-6 in the bottom of the seventh and the tying run at the plate but Stoker got a flyout to end the game. The senior earned the win, with 14 strikeouts, She allowed six runs on 11 hits.

Entwistle and McClure each had three hits, as Lowry had 16 in the game. Stoker, Upton, Aguilar and Rodriguez had two hits apiece,

Lowry makes its final regular season road trip of the year this weekend with a trip to Fallon to play Churchill County. Friday is a single game at 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.
