Tobey, Hinkey compete at state track and field championships

McDermitt High School’s Loni Tobey and Kess Hinkey competed at the NIAA 1A State Track and Field Championship this past weekend at Liberty High School in Henderson.

Tobey, a sophomore, set a personal best in the discus with a throw of 82 feet, 1 inch to place fifth.

Hinkey, a junior, finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 37-7.

Whittell won the girls team title with 91 points and Sierra Lutheran was send at 86. 

Indian Springs (77.50), Sage Ridge (65) and Virginia City (57) rounded out the top five.

Sierra Lutheran captured the boys team title with 120 points, with Green Valley Christian (109) placing second. Mineral County (83), Virginia City (51) and Indian Springs (40.50) completed the top five.
