Junior high/high school finals rodeo takes place this week

The Nevada State Junior High and High School Rodeo Finals take place this week and Memorial Day at the Winnemucca Event Center.

Cowboys and cowgirls from around the state will be vying for spots in the National Finals as well as the Silver State International Rodeo.

The queen contest and rifle and trap shooting kicked off on Wednesday.

The first rodeo performance of the rodeo starts at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, with the first go of cutting and reined cow horse at 4 p.m.

The rodeo performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday start at 9 a.m., with the top-15 finals on Monday getting under way at 8 a.m.

Cutting and reined cow horse continue on Friday at 4 p.m. with the short go set for Saturday at 4 p.m.

First go awards, queen coronation and junior high princess awards will follow the second performance on Friday. 

State championship awards will follow the top-15 finals on Monday.
